Abstract: Here is a square problem: in a unit square, is there a point with four rational distances to the vertices? A probability argument suggests a negative answer. This paper proves several special cases of the square problem: if the point sits on the diagonal , the middle or the side lines of the square, or the side-length of the square is $n$ times the distance from the point to one side (both $n$ and $n^2 + 4$ are prime numbers), the distances from this point to the four vertices can not be all rational. However, this paper does not prove a more general situation. The proof here can be extended to the whole plane, instead of being limited to the interior of the square.

Key words: discrete geometry; rational distance; a square problem

更进一步,这个距离应该是 $x=2 a b c d$ 的形式,而 $y=a^{2} c^{2}-b^{2} d^{2}$$z-y=b^{2} c^{2}-$a^{2} d^{2}$。 由此可知,$z=\left(a^{2}+b^{2}\right)\left(c^{2}-d^{2}\right)$

固定a以后, $x$ 的选择大约有 $a^{3}$ 的可能性 $($ 不妨设 $a$ $x$ 里最大的数)。所以, 对所有的 $a$ 积分,就得到总几率大约是 $\int_{a_{0}}^{\infty} a^{3} \cdot a^{-8} \mathrm{~d} a \sim a_{0}^{-4}$, 其中 $a_{0}$ 是某个积分限。

如果存在这样的点,就有 $x=2 a b c d=z=\left(a^{2}+b^{2}\right)\left(c^{2}-d^{2}\right)$ 。即,存在整数 $a$$b$ $c$  $d$, 使得 $2 a b c d=\left(a^{2}+b^{2}\right)\left(c^{2}-d^{2}\right)$ 其中$a$ 是偶数, $b$ $c$ $d$ 是奇数。

$x=c / d, k=a b /\left(a^{2}+b^{2}\right), \quad($ 注意,这里的 $x$ $k$ 与前文不一样了),则,下述方程

$$

x^{2}-2 k x-1=0

$$

$$

\begin{array}{c}

\left(a^{2}+b^{2}\right)^{2}+a^{2} b^{2}=e^{2} \quad\left({* }\right)

\end{array}

$$

$$

\left(e-a^{2}-b^{2}\right)\left(e+a^{2}+b^{2}\right)=a^{2} b^{2}

$$

$$

\begin{aligned}

\left(e-a^{2}-b^{2}\right) &=k_{1} a_{1} \\

\left(e+a^{2}+b^{2}\right) &=k_{2} a_{1}

\end{aligned}

$$

$$

e=\left(k_{1}+k_{2}\right) a_{1} / 2

$$

$$

\begin{array}{l}

\left(e-a^{2}-b^{2}\right)=k_{1} a_{1}^{2} b_{1}^{2} \\

\left(e+a^{2}+b^{2}\right)=k_{2} a_{2}^{2} b_{2}^{2}

\end{array}

$$

因为 $a$ 是偶数、 $b$ 是奇数, $\left(e-a^{2}-b^{2}\right)$  $\left(e+a^{2}+b^{2}\right)$ 相差 $8 k+2$ (其中 $k$ 是整数) 二者必然有一个只是 2 的倍数而不是 4 的倍数也就是说,

$$

\begin{array}{c}

\left(e-a^{2}-b^{2}\right)=2 a_{1}^{2} b_{1}^{2} \\

\left(e+a^{2}+b^{2}\right)=2^{2 k-1} a_{2}^{2} b_{2}^{2}

\end{array}

$$

$$

e=a_{1}^{2} b_{1}^{2}+2^{2 k-2} a_{2}^{2} b_{2}^{2}

$$

$$

\begin{array}{r}

\left(\left(2^{k} a_{1} a_{2}\right)^{2}+\left(b_{1} b_{2}\right)^{2}\right)^{2}+\left(2^{k} a_{1} a_{2} b_{1} b_{2}\right)^{2} \\

=\left(\left(a_{1} b_{1}\right)^{2}+\left(2^{k-1} a_{2} b_{2}\right)^{2}\right)^{2}

\end{array}

$$

$$

\begin{array}{c}

\left(\left(a_{1} b_{1}\right)^{2}-\left(2^{k-1} a_{2} b_{2}\right)^{2}\right)^{2}+\left(2^{k} a_{1} a_{2} b_{1} b_{2}\right)^{2} \\

=\left(\left(a_{1} b_{1}\right)^{2}+\left(2^{k-1} a_{2} b_{2}\right)^{2}\right)^{2}

\end{array}

$$

可知

$$

\left(2^{k} a_{1} a_{2}\right)^{2}+\left(b_{1} b_{2}\right)^{2}=\left(a_{1} b_{1}\right)^{2}-\left(2^{k-1} a_{2} b_{2}\right)^{2}

$$

换个符号, $2^{k-1} a_{2} \rightarrow a$$ a_{1} \rightarrow c$$  b_{1} \rightarrow b$$  b_{2} \rightarrow d$就有

$$

a^{2}\left(4 c^{2}+d^{2}\right)=b^{2}\left(c^{2}-d^{2}\right)

$$

$$

\frac{b^{2}}{a^{2}}=\frac{4 c^{2}+d^{2}}{c^{2}-d^{2}}

$$

$$

\begin{array}{l}

k a^{2}=c^{2}-d^{2} \\

k b^{2}=4 c^{2}+d^{2}

\end{array}

$$

所以,

$$

\begin{array}{c}

5 c^{2}=k\left(a^{2}+b^{2}\right) \\

5 d^{2}=k\left(b^{2}-4 a^{2}\right)

\end{array}

$$

$$

\begin{aligned}

a^{2}+b^{2}=c^{2} &(* *) \\

d^{2}+4 a^{2}=b^{2} &(* * *)

\end{aligned}

$$

, $d=m^{2}-n^{2}, a=m n, \quad b=m^{2}+n^{2}$, (***)式成立,而(**)式变为

$$

\left(m^{2}+n^{2}\right)^{2}+(m n)^{2}=c^{2}

$$

$$

\begin{array}{c}

\left(a^{2}+b^{2}\right)^{2}+a^{2} b^{2}=e^{2} \quad\left({* }\right)

\end{array}

$$

$$

\left(a^{2}+b^{2}\right)^{2}+(2 a b)^{2}=e^{2}

$$

$$

\left(\left(a_{1} a_{2}\right)^{2}+\left(b_{1} b_{2}\right)^{2}\right)^{2}+\left(2 a_{1} a_{2} b_{1} b_{2}\right)^{2}=e^{2}

$$

$$

\frac{b^{2}}{a^{2}}=\frac{c^{2}+d^{2}}{c^{2}-d^{2}}

$$

$$

\begin{array}{l}

2 c^{2}=k\left(a^{2}+b^{2}\right) \\

2 d^{2}=k\left(b^{2}-a^{2}\right)

\end{array}

$$

$$

a^{2}+b^{2}=c^{2}

$$

$$

d^{2}+a^{2}=b^{2}

$$

令, $b=m^{2}+n^{2}$$  a=2 m n$$  d=m^{2}-n^{2}$, 上面两个式子就意味着

$$

\left(m^{2}+n^{2}\right)^{2}+(2 m n)^{2}=c^{2}

$$

再做变量代换, $m \rightarrow a$$  n \rightarrow b$$  c \rightarrow e$, 就回到最初的方程

$$

\left(a^{2}+b^{2}\right)^{2}+(2 a b)^{2}=e^{2}

$$

$$

\left(a^{2}+b^{2}\right)^{2}+(n a b)^{2}=e^{2}

$$

$$

\left(\left(a_{1} a_{2}\right)^{2}+\left(b_{1} b_{2}\right)^{2}\right)^{2}+\left(n a_{1} a_{2} b_{1} b_{2}\right)^{2}=e^{2}

$$

$$

\frac{b^{2}}{a^{2}}=\frac{4 c^{2}+n^{2} d^{2}}{c^{2}-d^{2}}

$$

$$

\begin{array}{l}

\left(n^{2}+4\right) c^{2}=k\left(n^{2} a^{2}+b^{2}\right) \\

\left(n^{2}+4\right) d^{2}=k\left(b^{2}-4 a^{2}\right)

\end{array}

$$

$$

\begin{array}{l}

n^{2} a^{2}+b^{2}=c^{2} \\

b^{2}-4 a^{2}=d^{2}

\end{array}

$$

令, $b=s^{2}+t^{2}$$ a=s t$$d=s^{2}-t^{2}$上面两个式子就意味着

$$

\left(s^{2}+t^{2}\right)^{2}+(n s t)^{2}=c^{2}

$$

$$

\left(a^{2}+b^{2}\right)^{2}+(n a b)^{2}=e^{2}

$$
