让-皮埃尔·尚热（Jean-Pierre Changeux）1936年4月6日出生于法国瓦兹河谷省多蒙。1959年1月1日至1964年6月1日就读于法国巴黎笛卡尔大学巴黎理工学院（Université Paris Descartes IUT de Paris-Paris, FR），并获得生物化学博士学位（PhD, biochemistry），师从于贾克·莫诺（Jacques Lucien Monod）和弗朗索瓦·雅各布（François Jacob），两位导师与André Lwoff一起三人分享了1965年诺贝尔生理学或医学奖，详见The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1965 François Jacob, André Lwoff, Jacques Monod。
1976年2月25日至2006年6月1日在法国巴黎法兰西学院生物跨学科研究中心任名誉教授（College de France Centre interdisciplinaire de recherche en biologie-Paris, FR；professor emeritus），也是法国巴黎巴斯德研究所神经科学荣誉教授（Institut Pasteur-Paris, FR；Priofesseur Honoraire , Neuroscience）。
