H. Robert Horvitz (born on March 8, 1947), an American biologist, is famous for his research on Caenorhabditis elegans of Nematoda. He won the 2002 Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine together with Sydney Brenner and John E. Sulston for discovering the genetic regulation mechanism of organ development and programmed cell death (programmed cell apoptosis).
