Mario R. Capecchi (October 6, 1937) -) is one of the winners of the 2007 Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine. He is a famous professor of Utah Medical College and one of the two directors of the Department of human genetics. Capec was born in Verona, Italy, in 1937 and immigrated to the United States as a teenager. He obtained a bachelor's degree in chemistry and physics from Antioch College, Ohio, and a doctor's degree in biophysics from Harvard University. His doctoral dissertation was completed under the guidance of James Watson, the discoverer of DNA double helix structure and the winner of the 1962 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine.
