New Mexico Tech Tops 2017 University Rankings
Data from College Factual ranks Tech among nation's elite
SOCORRO, N.M. -- The New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology ranks among the nation's elite universities in academic value and quality of education in a number of science and engineering disciplines, according to new data released by College Factual.
When it comes to the best colleges for the money or best value, Tech is ranked No. 1 nationwide among all universities in Engineering and Physics. Tech No. 1 nationally in Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, No. 1 among all public universities in Computer Science, Physical Sciences and, No. 2 in both categories among all universities.
Tech is also the No. 2 public university nationwide in Mathematics, No. 3 in Mathematics and Statistics, No. 3 in Computer and Information Sciences, and No. 5 in Electrical Engineering. Overall, Tech ranks No. 1 in New Mexico, No. 1 in the Southwest, and 17th among all public universities nationally.
New Mexico Tech has five programs listed in the Top 10 and four in the Top 5 among College Factual's "Most Focused" rankings; its measure of how well a university focuses its available resources on a specific field of study. Tech is ranked No. 1 among all public institutions and No. 4 overall in Physics. Tech is ranked No. 2 in Materials Engineering among all U.S. institutes of higher education, behind only the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
NMT is the No. 4 public institution (No. 6 overall) in Physical Sciences, No. 5 in Mining Engineering, No. 15 in Geological and Earth Sciences, and No. 18 in Physical Sciences, General.
Overall, New Mexico Tech received 45 awards from College Factual in its 2017 rankings, all of which are granted to universities ranked in the top 15 percent nationally in one of its categories.
