       在19世纪德国和法国有一个很著名的“Schimper博物家族”。Karl Friedrich Schimper (1803—1867)和Georg Heinrich Wilhelm Schimper (1804--1878)兄弟俩都是博物学家。他们的堂弟Wilhelm Philippe Schimper (1808--1880)也是博物学家。Wilhelm Philippe Schimper 的妻子Adèle Besson(c.1825--??)是植物学家，他的儿子Andreas Franz Wilhelm Schimper (1856--1901)是植物地理学家。Karl Friedrich Schimper 、Wilhelm Philippe Schimper 和Andreas Franz Wilhelm Schimper分别于1835年、1862年和1892年当选为德国科学院院士(German Academy of Sciences--Leopoldina)。本期《德国古植物学之伞》聚焦卓越的植物地理学家Andreas Franz Wilhelm Schimper。

∮ 2德国植物地理学家Andreas Franz Wilhelm Schimper

      1856年，德国植物地理学家Andreas Franz Wilhelm Schimper出生于今属法国的Strasbourg市。深受父母的影响，他从小对自然历史有兴趣。

       1874年，Andreas Franz Wilhelm Schimper入读Strasbourg大学。当时供职于该大学的真菌学和植物病理学先驱性学者Hinrich Anton de Bary (1831--1888)对Andreas Franz Wilhelm Schimper的学业影响较大。Andreas Franz Wilhelm Schimper研究了淀粉粒的起源和发育，于1878年获得博士学位。

       1879—1880年，Andreas Franz Wilhelm Schimper在德国Würzburg大学跟随植物学名师Julius von Sachs院士(1832--1897)工作【注：Julius von Sachs于1880年当选为德国科学院(Leopoldina)植物学院士】。

       1880—1882年，Andreas Franz Wilhelm Schimper供职于美国的JohnsHopkins大学(Baltimore, Maryland) 。期间，Andreas Franz Wilhelm Schimper曾到佛罗里达和西印度群島(West Indies)进行科学考察，他对植物地理学产生了兴趣。

       1883年，Andreas Franz Wilhelm Schimper返回德国，主要在波恩大学植物研究所跟随著名植物学家Eduard Adolf Strasburger院士 (1844--1912)工作【注：1873年Eduard Adolf Strasburger当选为德国科学院(Leopoldina)植物学院士；1900年当选为法国科学院植物学通讯院士】。1886年，Andreas Franz Wilhelm Schimper晋升为杰出教授。1898年，Andreas Franz Wilhelm Schimper受聘瑞士Basel大学植物学教授。

         AndreasFranz Wilhelm Schimper在植物地理学和植物生态学领域颇有建树。他曾到中美洲、南美洲、非洲和亚洲等地区开展野外考察，获得大量有关植物地理学的第一手资料。然而，1898年10月他在喀麦隆的科学考察中不幸感染了严重的疟疾。Andreas Franz Wilhelm Schimper的代表性著作有：

Anleitung zur mikroskopischen Untersuchung der Nahrungs’und Genussmittel (Jena, 1886)；

Taschenbuch dermedicinisch-pharmaceutischen Botanik und pflanzlichen Drogenkunde (Strasbourg, 1886)；

Schimper’s botnische Mittheilungen aus den Tropen, 3 vols.(Jena, 1888–1891)…

      1892年Andreas Franz Wilhelm Schimper当选为德国科学院(Leopoldina)院士。1901年他在瑞士Basel去世，年仅45岁。
