Prof. Kenneth HEWITT from WilfridLaurier University visited the Institute of Mountain Hazards (IMHE), ChineseAcademy of Sciences while he came to Chengdu to attend the 4th International Symposium on Mega Earthquake InducedGeo-disasters and Long Term Effects which was held in the Chengdu University of Technology during May 8th to 11th.
On May 8th, Prof. Hewitt had atalk with JMS editors and gave some suggestions on how to organize specialissues and raise journal international impact.
When learning that editorial member, Prof.Matthias KHULE lost his life in Nepal Earthquake while accompanying a party of students on a field excursion, Prof. QIU proposed JMS editors and members holda special memory on Prof. Khule, a world renowned glacial geomorphologist from the University of Göttingen. Several members have discussed and decided to write a memorial article for Matthias, and organize a special issue on glacier research. Prof. Khule.
On May 15th morning, Prof. Hewitt gave a lecture to the staffs and students in the Institute of Mountain Hazardsand Environment on the subject “A naturally fragmented high mountain riversystem: the transhimalayan upper Indus Basin”. Then, Prof. CUI Peng, theEditor-in-Chief, Prof Hewitt, and the editors had a lunch together.
