 In general the statistics over the long term are not easy，because the concepts are changing. 
In general， there are two types of students in Franch, university students and those under the Ministry of Education. Nevertheless it is obvious that this number has increased dramatically from 29,000 in 1900 to several million. As the graph shows that there are two major shock  increases in the period 60s-70s and 80s-95s respectively.
Furthermore, the number of teachers has increased significantly only in 1960 and 1973 from about 12,000 to 41,000.
