My free invention of space sterilizer to kill coronavirus

The pandemic COVID-19 is driving humankind panic in extreme degree, and those disease fighters are in terrible danger all over the world, because high risk of virus contraction in closed rooms with patients.

I invent an efficient method to kill all virus in closed space, and now present it for free use anywhere in the world.

The method is: using an electric motor to drive a set of compressing cylinders in sequence, or a bare ICE (Internal Combustion Engine, but repurposed).

We know the internal combustion engine can heat mixed-gas up to 600°C in cylinders during compression stroke, and the greater the compression ratio, the higher the temperature,

With such high temperature, whatever virus will be destroyed within milliseconds up to 1 second, and such instant efficacy is far superior to whatever else methods, e.g. regular disinfect spray, ultraviolet radiation, etc.

That's really good hope for current crisis, isn't it?

Compared with other methods, its cost is forbiddingly high, but however we can still economically recycle those vast used cars in junkyards, by only gutting out the bare engine without any auxiliary.

Of course, the 500°C is overreach too much the workable killing temperature for virus, however, the higher the temperature, the short the killing time, then the greater the sterilizing capacity, so repurposing diesel is better than gasoline engine, because diesel one renders highest compression temperature.

For gasoline engines, a minor modification may be necessary to reach same temperature of diesel one: add spacers to pistons so as to reduce compressed volume.

As needless of explosion stroke for a repurposed engine, so even not to recycle junk one, a new simplified design can still make sense, by eliminating those heavy-duty commensurable peripherals & excessive dimensions, then phenomenally reducing cost to enough cheap.

President Trump does enforced Defense Production Act on GM to massively build medical ventilators, however making ICE is just the true forte of the likes: Ford, GM, Chevrolet etc.

Therefore, the carmakers should be commanded to massively produce the cost-plummeted repurposed "fake engine".

Technical notes:

Don't use 12VDC starter motor to drive the repurposed engine, because such motors are not designed for long time but <30s use, instead beter using 3-phase industrial motor to drive via coupling main shaft.

A bare ICE can get rid of lubrication system, because such repurposing application is equivalent to, even duty/load far lesser than idling status of a full-fledged engine, and motor oil circulation will lower temperature, just unwanted counter-effect of killing virus.

Hospitals need silence environment, so this sterilizer machine should be properly muffled or take special measure, because it still makes some less strong noise, though not burning gasoline or diesel.

For a 4L displacement engine, and a room of 3x6 = 18 m^2 floor plus 3m ceiling, in theory, this special sterilizer need run at least cycles number: 18x3x1000/4 = 13500 cycles, and in a standard 4-stroke ICE, only one compression stroke in a cycle.

If at 2000 rpm, the cycle time = 60/2000 = 0.03s = 30ms, then 13500 cycles = 405s = 6.75 minutes, and as circulation efficiency is not ideal, so full sterilizing time should be far more than the theoretical calculation.

By slowing rev speed, the cycle period can be elongated, and the sterilizing reliability can be improved, though throughput may be decreased and reducer transmission will add some cost. E.g. 100:1 speed reducer will let compression stroke work 30*100/4= 750ms =0.75s.

Slowing rev speed also make adiabatic process of ICE strokes less adiabatic, but not big problem, just lowering temperature somewhat.

Because the "exhausted" air from the repurposed engine is still hot somewhat, so compression sterilizer will heat space simultaneously, or in other words, this feature can disburden the existing heating system inside building.

Although a simple resistance electric heater can also kill virus by its continuous hot surface which temperature may be higher than the pulse temperature of cylinder chamber in compression stroke, however guiding & pushing air through its surface will need big power blower, and only a fraction (<<10%) of pass-by air can touch the hot surface.

In contrast, this compressional sterilizer naturally renders high pressure at outlet manifold for "exhaust" hot air, as well as negative pressure at inlet manifold for intake of cold air.

So, needless of a blower for air circulation, its outlet can push sterilized air to the ceil, and inlet can suck raw air from floor or manifold of ventilators, and such a setting itself just render the best circulation performance.

Alternatively, a ready-for-use air compressor can also be modified for space sterilization, by simply cutting or disconnecting the hose to the tank, optionally adding spacers to piston heads for imitation of diesel engine (if not, performance compromised), then extend & route the hose to the ceiling.

Real good solution for all enclosed spaces with potential high risk of virus contamination! Especially good for hospital ICUs & commercial airplanes, where virus can easily transmit by so many means, salvia droplets & aerosols: breathing, sneeze, cough, leaked masks, even flatulence, i.e. fart.
