Nobel laureate Mo Yan speaks on Chinese literature at UM Mo Yan, the first Chinese citizen to win the Nobel Prize in literature and this year’s recipient of an honorary doctorate from the University of Macau on 7 December spoke on the “Achievements of Chinese Literature and Its Future” at UM’s Doctor honoris causa Forum in the University Hall. During the forum, Mo Yan and Macao Foundation Administrative Committee President Wu Zhiliang and Chair Professor Yang Yi from Department of Chinese, FAH had a high-level academic discussion session, providing a literary feast for a full-house audience. UM Rector Wei Zhao said that at the honorary degree conferment ceremony, Mo Yan, a current focus of worldwide attention in the field of Chinese literature, officially became a member of UM, which also put UM in the spotlight both locally and internationally. Mo Yan’s becoming a member of UM will without a doubt further enhance the global impact and competitiveness of UM’s Chinese disciplines. Rector Wei Zhao noted that Chinese is one of the key foundational disciplines at UM. Earlier, UM’s Department of Chinese formed an academic alliance with its counterparts at Peking University, Taiwan University, and the University of Hong Kong, and the alliance has successfully organised a series of activities. During the academic discussion session between Mo Yan, Wu Zhiliang and Yang Yi, which was moderated by UM’s Department of Chinese Head Prof Zhu Shoutong, Mo Yan shared his insightful views on the current state and prospect of contemporary Chinese literature. He discussed the global impact contemporary Chinese has had through the creation of Chinese literature, as well as the positive and negative effects of the geographical and cultural diversity of Chinese literature on the development of literature. Mo also discussed the future of Chinese literature and the challenges ahead. He expressed confidence that Chinese literature will have a bright future. The forum attracted a full-house audience. Attendees included students and teachers from local universities and secondary schools as well as representatives from various organisations including the Macao Writers Association, and the co-organiser, the Organising Committee of Macao Youths Celebrating the 15th Anniversary of the Macao SAR. After the forum, Mo Yan attended a book exhibition held in UM Wu Yee Sun Library, where several of his classic novels were exhibited. Mo Yan is one of China’s foremost living writers. In the mid-1980s, Mo became noted for having written a corpus of in-search-of-roots works with infusions of the raw rural culture. He received the Mao Dun Literature Prize for his novel Frog . In 2012, he received the Nobel Prize in literature for his ability to merge “hallucinatory realism” with “folk tales, history and the contemporary” in his work. http://fah.umac.mo/2014/12/10/nobel-laureate-mo-yan-speaks-on-chinese-literature-at-um -諾貝爾得主莫言澳大開講漢語文學/
Your Majesties, Your Royal Highnesses, Esteemed Nobel Laureates, Ladies and Gentlemen, Mo Yan is a poet who tears down stereotypical propaganda posters, elevating the individual from an anonymous human mass. Using ridicule and sarcasm Mo Yan attacks history and its falsifications as well as deprivation and political hypocrisy. Playfully and with ill-disguised delight, he reveals the murkiest aspects of human existence, almost inadvertently finding images of strong symbolic weight. North-eastern Gaomi county embodies China’s folk tales and history. Few real journeys can surpass these to a realm where the clamour of donkeys and pigs drowns out the voices of the people’s commissars and where both love and evil assume supernatural proportions. Mo Yan’s imagination soars across the entire human existence. He is a wonderful portrayer of nature; he knows virtually all there is to know about hunger, and the brutality of China’s 20th century has probably never been described so nakedly, with heroes, lovers, torturers, bandits – and especially, strong, indomitable mothers. He shows us a world without truth, common sense or compassion, a world where people are reckless, helpless and absurd. Proof of this misery is the cannibalism that recurs in China’s history. In Mo Yan, it stands for unrestrained consumption, excess, rubbish, carnal pleasures and the indescribable desires that only he can attempt to elucidate beyond all tabooed limitations. In his novel Republic of Wine, the most exquisite of delicacies is a roasted three-year-old. Boys have become exclusive foodstuff. The girls, neglected, survive. The irony is directed at China’s family policy, because of which female foetuses are aborted on an astronomic scale: girls aren’t even good enough to eat. Mo Yan has written an entire novel, Frog, about this. Mo Yan’s stories have mythical and allegorical pretensions and turn all values on their heads. We never meet that ideal citizen who was a standard feature in Mao’s China. Mo Yan’s characters bubble with vitality and take even the most amoral steps and measures to fulfil their lives and burst the cages they have been confined in by fate and politics. Instead of communism’s poster-happy history, Mo Yan describes a past that, with his exaggerations, parodies and derivations from myths and folk tales, is a convincing and scathing revision of fifty years of propaganda. In his most remarkable novel, Big Breasts and Wide Hips, where a female perspective dominates, Mo Yan describes the Great Leap Forward and the Great Famine of 1960 in stinging detail. He mocks the revolutionary pseudo-science that tried to inseminate sheep with rabbit sperm, all the while dismissing doubters as right-wing elements. The novel ends with the new capitalism of the ‘90s with fraudsters becoming rich on beauty products and trying to produce a Phoenix through cross-fertilisation. In Mo Yan, a forgotten peasant world arises, alive and well, before our eyes, sensually scented even in its most pungent vapours, startlingly merciless but tinged by joyful selflessness. Never a dull moment. The author knows everything and can describe everything – all kinds of handicraft, smithery, construction, ditch-digging, animal husbandry, the tricks of guerrilla bands. He seems to carry all human life on the tip of his pen. He is more hilarious and more appalling than most in the wake of Rabelais and Swift — in our time, in the wake of García Marquez. His spice blend is a peppery one. On his broad tapestry of China’s last hundred years, there are neither dancing unicorns nor skipping maidens. But he paints life in a pigsty in such a way that we feel we have been there far too long. Ideologies and reform movements may come and go but human egoism and greed remain. So Mo Yan defends small individuals against all injustices – from Japanese occupation to Maoist terror and today’s production frenzy. For those who venture to Mo Yan’s home district, where bountiful virtue battles the vilest cruelty, a staggering literary adventure awaits. Has ever such an epic spring flood engulfed China and the rest of the world? In Mo Yan’s work, world literature speaks with a voice that drowns out most contemporaries. The Swedish Academy congratulates you. I call on you to accept the 2012 Nobel Prize for Literature from the hand of His Majesty the King.
Dear old and youngmen, dear girls and wives, My name is shut up! My sister's name is don't worry, and my brother's name is don't hurry. Many Chinese people believe that they will get gold if they don't say any words. But I believe that everything is from nothing. My most famous novel is “Big Breast and Fat Hip”. Do you know what I mean?In China it is often regarded as a yellow book. Soold and young men like reading it. The police will sweep yellowthings if they are too yellow.I am lucky that my books are not that yellow. o-ye! After I get the prize, I plan to buy a big house in Beijing. How big is big? About 120 square meters. But first of all, I need to apply for an ID card in Beijing. I am very very happy. Thank the party, thank the government, thank my parents, thank my sisters and brothers, thank my wife, and thank you! I love you, and do you love me? Please loudly! Shut up!
The Nobel Prize in Literature 2012 was awarded to Mo Yan "who with hallucinatory realism merges folk tales, history and the contemporary"(将 魔幻现实主义与民间故事、历史与当代社会融合在一起) 。
网上流传的莫言大部分文集 http://bbs.sciencenet.cn/forum.php?mod=viewthreadtid=1109741fromuid=70526 Writing to 3D OpenGL textures in CUDA 4.1 with 3D surfacewrites December 2, 2011 5 Comments CUDA 4.1 has been released , and with it, and they’ve added support for writing to 3D surfaces. And thanks to some pointers from some very helpful Nvidia engineers (thanks Gernot !), I was able to write to a 3D OpenGL texture with a CUDA kernel, without having to copy any data between the host and the device. The new toolkit has an excellent volumeFiltering sample that shows how to write to 3D surfaces, which was very helpful, but there are still a couple of gotchas to watch out for. OpenGL interop The sample uses cudaMalloc3DArrayto directly allocate data for the 3D surfaces, so it doesn’t show the process for 3D surface writes in which the allocation has occurred by creating an OpenGL texture. Fortunately, that takes just a few extra steps. The Steps Create an OpenGL 3D Texture Register the texture as an “image” with CUDA Map the “image” to a CUDA graphics resource Get a cudaArray pointer from the resource Pass the cudaArray pointer to the device Bind the cudaArray to a globally scoped CUDA surface Call a CUDA kernel Write to the surface using surf3Dwrite Unmap the resource Unregister the texture Step 1: Create an OpenGL 3D texture Hopefully most people know how to do this, just watch out that you are using a texture format that is CUDA compatible, I’m not entirely sure all which textures are supported, but this forum post shows a couple that definitely work. glGenTextures(1, texID); glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_3D, texID); { glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_3D, GL_TEXTURE_MIN_FILTER, GL_NEAREST ); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_3D, GL_TEXTURE_MAG_FILTER, GL_NEAREST ); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_3D, GL_TEXTURE_WRAP_S, GL_CLAMP_TO_BORDER); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_3D, GL_TEXTURE_WRAP_T, GL_CLAMP_TO_BORDER); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_3D, GL_TEXTURE_WRAP_T, GL_CLAMP_TO_BORDER); glTexImage3D(GL_TEXTURE_3D, 0, GL_RGBA32F, textureDim.x, textureDim.y, textureDim.z, 0, GL_RGBA, GL_FLOAT, NULL); } glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_3D, 0); Step 2:Register the texture as an “image” with CUDA This is done with cudaGraphicsGLRegisterImage , just make sure you specify the cudaGraphicsRegisterFlagsSurfaceLoadStore flag as this tell CUDA that you want to bind this image/texture to a surface reference. If you wrap this in a cutilSafeCall and you used an unsupported texture format, you’ll probably get an error message. cutilSafeCall(cudaGraphicsGLRegisterImage(cuda_image_resource, texID, GL_TEXTURE_3D, cudaGraphicsRegisterFlagsSurfaceLoadStore)); Step 3:Map the “image” to a CUDA graphics resource You must map the resource with cudaGraphicsMapResources before you can get a cudaArray from it. cutilSafeCall(cudaGraphicsMapResources(1, cuda_image_resource, 0)); Step 4:Get a cudaArray pointer from the resource Unlike with buffers, we won’t get a raw pointer from CUDA, instead we get a mapped cudaArray type by calling cudaGraphicsSubResourceGetMappedArray . The cudaArray pointer is only guaranteed valid while “mapped”. cutilSafeCall(cudaGraphicsSubResourceGetMappedArray(cuda_array, cuda_image_resource, 0, 0)); Step 5: Pass the cudaArray pointer to the device Getting the cudaArray pointer is pretty much the last thing we do on the host side. Once we have the pointer we pass it over to the device side code (in the .cu file) launch_kernel(cuda_image_array, textureDim); Step 6:Bind the cudaArray to a globally scoped CUDA surface Once we have the cudaArray pointer on the device side we bind it to the surface reference. For some reason the surface reference must be declared in the global scope. There is no cudaUnbindSurface, so don’t worry about that. cutilSafeCall(cudaBindSurfaceToArray(surfaceWrite, cuda_array)); Step 7:Call a CUDA kernel Now that we have a surface reference to work with we can call our CUDA kernel. Make sure not to use too large of block for your kernel launch, which is pretty easy to do if your specifying the dimension in 3D. I believe the limit is 1024 on current gen hardware. If you exceed the limit the kernel will fail to launch, you can catch this with cutilCheckMsg. dim3 block_dim(8, 8, 8); dim3 grid_dim(texture_dim.x/block_dim.x, texture_dim.y/block_dim.y, texture_dim.z/block_dim.z); kernel grid_dim, block_dim (texture_dim); cutilCheckMsg("kernel failed"); Step 8:Write to the surface using surf3Dwrite Now that we’ve launched our CUDA kernel we can write to the globally scoped surface with surf3Dwrite. I got tripped up at this point because I didn’t realize that surface memory uses byte addressing. This means that the x-coordinate used to access a surface element needs to be multiplied by the byte size of the element. This is easy to miss if you’re going by the SDK sample, since it uses a 1-byte surface of unsigned char‘s. __global__ void kernel(dim3 texture_dim) { int x = blockIdx.x*blockDim.x + threadIdx.x; int y = blockIdx.y*blockDim.y + threadIdx.y; int z = blockIdx.z*blockDim.z + threadIdx.z; if(x = texture_dim.x || y = texture_dim.y || z = texture_dim.z) { return; } float4 element = make_float4(1.0f, 1.0f, 1.0f, 1.0f); surf3Dwrite(element, surfaceWrite, x*sizeof(float4), y, z); } Step 9: Unmap the resource Make sure to unmap the resource with cudaGraphicsUnmapResources before you try to do anything else with the texture, like use it in OpenGL. If you surface writes were misaligned you’ll probably get an “unknown error” when trying to unmap the resource, if it was called with cutilSafeCall. cutilSafeCall(cudaGraphicsUnmapResources(1, cuda_image_resource, 0)); Step 10: Unregister the texture This is just more cleanup, be sure to unregister the texture/image resource with cudaGraphicsUnregisterResource , you probably don’t want to do this until you are done with the texture. cutilSafeCall(cudaGraphicsUnregisterResource(cuda_image_resource)); Conclusion Source This is a feature I’ve been looking forward to for quite awhile, and I’m very glad to see it implemented in the newest CUDA release. Hopefully I’ve managed to describe to process clearly enough that other people can avoid the mistakes I made. If you still having trouble make sure you’ve called cudaGLSetGLDevice. I created a very simple source example from an SDK sample, so hopefully it will work/compile if you extract it in your SDK sample directory (C:\ProgramData\NVIDIA Corporation\NVIDIA GPU Computing SDK 4.1\C\src\).
我只能说,莫言的东西,is not my cup of tea.
诺贝尔奖官方网站称,莫言“The 2012 Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to Mo Yan‘who with hallucinatory realism merges folk tales, history and the contemporary’”(用魔幻现实主义的写作手法,将民间故事、历史与当代融为一体。) ( http://www.chinawriter.com.cn/wxpl/2010/2010-07-26/88035.html )
The importance of art has nothing whatsoever to do with money. http://news.xinhuanet.com/world/2012-10/12/c_113350558.htm (3)2010年Grigori Perelman 拒绝了 Clay Mathematics Institute 的 Millennium Prize(100万美圆):“It is not people who break ethical standards who are regarded as aliens, ” he said. “ It is people like me who are isolated. Vincent van Gogh . Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear . January 1889. Oil on canvas. 相关链接: 《恐怖与恐惧的 pure scientist (纯粹的科学家》 http://blog.sciencenet.cn/home.php?mod=spaceuid=107667do=blogquickforward=1id=621707 《Grigori Perelman: Millennium Prize of Clay Mathematics Institute 与天才的心灵》 http://blog.sciencenet.cn/blog-107667-304994.html 《科技与钱:想起了van Gogh》 http://bbs.sciencenet.cn/blog-107667-301257.html First Clay Mathematics Institute Millennium Prize Announced 《Prize for Resolution of the Poincaré Conjecture Awarded to Dr. Grigoriy Perelman》 http://www.claymath.org/millennium/ 《在中国大陆,中年男人 裸奔 犯法吗?》 http://blog.sciencenet.cn/home.php?mod=spaceuid=107667do=blogid=620620 http://ent.szonline.net/Channel/201210/13/669786.shtm
