最近,有机会天天和一老外在一起工作,从早到晚都有时间交流。沉默了20多年的英语,在短短几天里,突破了哑语的范畴,开始了突飞猛进。以至于,在脑子里思考问题的时候,都是英文表达。所幸,做梦时的思维还停留在母语水平。 老外,是一个敬业、爱岗、勤劳的古稀女士,名曰Judith。她,苗条的身材,恰当的举止,流露着昔日的风韵和美丽!和Judith交流,一开始总感觉不知道怎么表达。一天,两天、三天,居然也可以信口开河了。让Judith不理解的语句,越来越少;自己说I beg your pardon的机会也相应减少。 语言,如同一门生动的,和生活如此紧密接触的工具,显露着语言本身的交流、沟通、实用的特点。在和Judith朝夕相处的日子中,发现老外说话特别有趣,特别生动。抱读英语试卷的我,常常碰到了平时绝对想不到的生动表达。 屋里有一堆香蕉和苹果,我问她:which one do you like to eat?她说:Banana, for they are getting old. 看着banana已经变得斑驳的皮,我笑了:生活中的语言可以如此生动。 再一个让我觉得有趣的表达是她的手受伤了,伤口在靠近大拇指处。包扎完毕后,她指着大拇指说:It is sleeping while the other fourare normal. 我对她用sleeping的说法非常叹服,之准确,之通俗易懂,胜过其它词汇。 Judith特别敬业爱岗,她生病了,躺在床上,但吃饭洗碗之类的活她一定会自己干。她对我们的照顾非常感谢,同时总觉得愧疚。有一天她说:I am like a pig. I can do nothing but sleep and eat. 我对她坦率的表达非常吃惊但又认可。这个比喻其实也很恰当。 昨天晚上,Judith从下午开始工作,一直到晚上8点。后来她累了,也很担心自己的工作计划是否能按时完成。然而她累了,她跟我说:I am thinking of the projects. However, my body told me that I need sleep. Tommorrow is another day! 呵呵,很有趣,看来《Gone with the wind》中的最后一句话是多么的classic,在全世界广为流传。
大学的时候,上过一堂有趣的心理学的课。在这门叫社交心理学的课上,老师出了讲解心理学的相关知识外,有时还会看些心理学方面的电影,有时也会进行一些游戏。记得印象最深的是有一次课堂上,前半节课老师讲了当天的相关知识,中间休息了一会之后,老师宣布把桌子都搬到靠墙的位置,我们要进行一个小游戏,游戏的规则是这样的:开始的时候,我们大家都是没有孵出来的小鸡蛋,都只能蹲着,还不能动,只能通过和周围其他同样都还是小鸡蛋的同学进行猜拳,赢了之后就可以变成小鸡,小鸡就可以在地上行走了。变成小鸡以后你就可以再寻找别的小鸡猜拳,赢了你就变成母鸡,就可以站起来,而输了你就变回小鸡蛋。同样,母鸡再找别的母鸡猜拳,而鸡蛋就只能再去找别的鸡蛋,最先赢了的就变成了凤凰,第一个变成凤凰的就是赢家。老师宣布完游戏规则后,我们就开始了游戏。那天我手气出奇的好,竟然每把都赢,一路过关斩将最先变成了凤凰,我高兴的举手宣布我赢得了比赛,这也表示游戏已经结束了。看到别的同学有的还蹲在地上,我很高兴和自豪,那种成功后的喜悦难以言表。之后老师问我赢了以后的感受,我当时或许是紧张,只说自己很高兴,后来我才意识到虽然这是一个看似很幼稚的游戏,却蕴含着深刻的意义。鸡蛋副化成小鸡,小鸡再变成母鸡,母鸡最后变成凤凰,代表着我们成长的过程。在这个过程中,有的人会一帆风顺地变成母鸡,进而变成凤凰;有的人则不是那么一帆风顺,要经历很多风浪和挫折最终才取得成功;还有的人或许屡战屡败,最终还是小鸡蛋。这个游戏告诉我们,漫漫人生长路上,不会是那么的一帆风顺,顺顺当当,在这条路上有很多挫折,很多挑战摆在我们面前,但是,纵然有很多挫折,很多坎坷,可是只要坚持不放弃就有成功的机会。很少有人会一辈子好运气,顺到底,都说三十年河东,三十年河西,相信阳光总在风雨后,只有经历过风雨才能见到彩虹。 后来读研究生的时候在研究生院上英语课,老师布置过一篇作文,题目是:Games are interesting only when you win it。我就写了这个游戏,还得了高分。当时是这样写的: There are many interesting games in our life, and some ones give us deep impressions while others vanish in our memory. It occurs to me when I saw this caption, and I think I must write this game. The game occurred in a course of psychology when I was a sophomore. One day our teacher declared that at this course we would have a game, and she explained the rule of this game. At the beginning we were all eggs, and all of us do a finger-guessing game each other. We would become chicks only when we win against another and the losing ones would still be eggs. Then the chicks would do the same finger-guessing game each other, so did the eggs. The winning ones would become chanticleer while the losing ones return to the eggs. The one who become chanticleer first would win this game. After the teacher explained this, we started the game. All of us should squat on the ground at first indicated that we were eggs. I won at the first inning and I would stand up for that I had become a chick already. After seeking out another chick I asked for him the finger-guessing game, and I won again. I put my hand immediately expressed that I had won, and there were others followed me until the game finished. The teacher declared that I was the winner of this game, and I felt this game was very interesting.
