针对我的博客“一个数的任意次方都可以表示为两个数平方和的规律”中提到的推测,只要一个数可以表示为两个不同数的平方和,那么这个数的任意次方都能表示为两个数的平方和。在此给出一个简单的证明,设 c=a^2+b^2 ,则 c^2=( a^2+b^2)^2=( a^2-b^2)^2+(2ab)^2 。进而可以利用数学归纳法证明 , c 的任意次方也可以表示为两个数的平方和。由此就证明,一个数如果可以表示为两个不同数的平方和,那么它的任意次方都可以表示为两个数的平方和。

今天偶读谈祥柏先生的文章“高斯 - 费马质数 17 ” ,提到 17 等一些数具有一种奇妙的特性,也就是其任意次方都可以表示为两个数的平方和。通过该文中的证明可以看出,只要一个数且其平方都可以表示为两个数的平方和,则这个数的任意次方都可以表示为两个数的平方和。该文引起了本人的兴趣,对一些数进行了测试,结果发现了一个有趣的规律,即只要一个数可以表示为两个不同数的平方和,则这个数任意次方都可以表示为两个数的平方和。如 5(1^2+2^2) 、 10(1^2+3^2) 、 17(1^2+4^2) 、 26(1^2+5^2) 、 37(1^2+6^2) 、 50(1^2+7^2) 、 65(1^2+8^2) 、 82(1^2+9^2) 和 101(1^2+10^2) ; 13(2^2+3^2) 、 20(2^2+4^2) 、 29(2^2+5^2) 、 40(2^2+6^2) 、 53(2^2+7^2) 、 68(2^2+8^2) 、 85(2^2+9^2) 和 104(2^2+10^2) ; 25(3^2+4^2) 、 34(3^2+5^2) 、 45(3^2+6^2) 、 58(3^2+7^2) 、 73(3^2+8^2) 、 90(3^2+9^2) 、 109(3^2+10^2) 等。它们的平方都可以表示为两个数的平方和,因而它们的任意次方也可以表示为两个数的平方和。而 2 、 8 、 18 等因为只可以表示为两个相同数的平方和,而不具有上述性质。因此,本人在这里作一个大胆推测,也就是只要一个数可以表示为两个不同数的平方和,那么这个数的任意次方都能表示为两个数的平方和。不知这个推测是否已经被证明或能否被证明,请教于方家。

数论最新出版物题录(2011年10月至2012年4月)
由延安大学和西北大学数学研究所主办的第八届国际数论与Smarandache问题研讨会,2012年4月14日至15日在延安大学召开。本人以期刊编辑部的邀请代表参加了会议。来自陕西、甘肃、河南、广东、海南、内蒙古等地近百人出席了会议,有20余篇论文进行了大会交流。数学不是自己的专业,对于数论就隔行更远了。但是作为数学文献检索,自己略知一二。延安回来,因为几天无法上网,一直想看看数论研究的一些最新结果难以进行,今天计算机上网正常了,查了近半年来,美国数学会主办的MathSciNet网站,《最新数学出版物》(Current Mathematical Publications,简称CMP)题录的数论最新研究成果。 CMP是一种以报道全球已经出版或即将出版的数学文献为主旨的通告性杂志,每个条目都由美国数学评论编辑选择,并根据MSC2010版《Mathematics Subject Classification 2010》进行分类。该刊每三周出版一次,先于《MathSciNet》出版,以题录形式报道即将收录于《数学评论》数据库(MRDB)的资料,编辑部选择其中部分内容补充摘要后列入MRDB。 在MSC2010版中,数论被列为11-Number theory,是1980年以来就设立的分类,虽然经过了1985年,1991年,1995年,2000年以及2010年的多次修改,到2010版有20个二级分类,较MSC2000版增加了11Z-数论的各种应用(11Z-Miscellaneous applications of number theory),具体分类以及演变见附件MSC Results for 11-Number Theory.2011年10月至2012年4月的数论研究最新成果1389条题录,见附件(注:2012年4月份的最新统计结果有待5月初再更新)。 MSC Results for 11-Number Theory.pdf MR2012-04-189.pdf MR2012-03-211.pdf MR2012-02-202.pdf MR2012-01-220.pdf MR2011-12-141.pdf MR2011-11-194.pdf MR2011-10-232.pdf

研究生选我做导师的统一答复 王永晖 请先看一下 我在科学网博客的研究生数学栏目 最好也看一下本科生教学栏目,尤其是这篇文章 大学数学学习与中学的不同之处 其他要点是: 1. 学习解析数论,需要智力、体力和胆气,在这些方面没有自信心,也没想着办法去提高的同学,勿入此门。 2. 如果要做学问,就不能染上网瘾打电子游戏,这是完全不同的大脑结构, 如果有这方面的人生爱好, 就不适合过来。 3. 我们的数论学习材料,基本上都是英语, 如果对英语比较怵,那就很难进入我们的学习研究状态, 将来写文章也都是用英语,如果对英语反感的话, 则不能来这儿学习了。 4.研究生的工作内容是研究,不再是考试,这可能对很多同学来说需要一个转变的过程。关键的一点是,研究生最好最好跟导师有相似的研究兴趣,对相似的问题感兴趣,这样研究生才能在导师的基础上,达到最快成长曲线,也尽早地出师进入自由天地。已经觉得进入自由天地的学生,不必考虑我做导师。 研究生的报考和选导师,在首师大数学系是两个过程,所以 同学们可以 认真阅读一下上面这些材料, 确定大家理念一致, 在考上之后再找我约谈,9月份开学报到之后才需要确定是否要选我做导师。 9月份开学后, 最终下定决心学习解析数论, 最好在同年级研究生同学中, 找到一个或两个志同道合的同学,这样, 总共3个人一块儿跟我学,如果人数太少,学习气氛就不浓, 太多了也不行,3个会比较合适。

山大数论学派的特点:导师请学生吃饭

我的师承,硕士导师张文鹏虽然是在西北大学,但是他本人是山东大学潘承洞老师的弟子,所以入他的门,就是入了山大数论学派的门。读了2年后,张文鹏老师又推荐我提前攻博,跟展涛老师接着学了3年,98年博士毕业。 潘承洞老师很少接触,毕竟隔了一代,不过我从自己的两位导师身上,领会到潘承洞老师传下来的学风与教风,对于年轻的我来说,感受最深的还是,导师请学生吃饭,在西大跟张老师就是如此,在山大跟展老师也是如此,学期开始和结束的时候,有一次饭局是必不可少的,刚刚从本科生阶段出来,真得感觉很新鲜。 所以,我现在有时候也使用请客吃饭这种形式,对待我主持过的本科生讨论班的核心成员,以及名下的研究生,就是从他们那儿学来的。 山大学派还有另外一个教学特点,就是导师并不手把手地教学生,要点提示过了,学生就自己闯去吧,闯的结果拿来给老师看,建议和帮助,给提高一下。 这个特点,也有历史的原因,一个是,山大数论的这几位老师,有重要的行政工作,实际条件上也不可能手把手地去教,估计潘承洞老师就是这样对待他的学生们,而他的学生,也就是我的导师们,也这样对待我们,也能培养出人才。 像密码学的王小云,还有解析数论和自守表示的刘建亚,也就是这样出来的,是我的师叔辈,不光是他们两个,还有其他好几个。 我当年主要是想学纯粹数学,所以跟刘建亚老师接触得更多,我在学业上的努力方向,跟刘建亚老师的指点共鸣最大,我觉得自己还算是孺子可教之类,真得会把刘建亚说过的几句话,放在心上,就是这么几句话,去实践几年。 所以,山大这种教法确实有合理之处,如果一个学生智力足够,用心,老师指点那么几句,其实真也就够了,像我这种资质的都可以这么做,比我资质更高的中国学生大有人在,当然更是可以。 刘建亚除了指点之外,花时间教我最多的,就是两个小时教会我使用Latex,他本人条理极为清楚,书法又好,真的是两个小时就把我教会了,现在,利用Scientific WorkPlace软件,我可以在1个小时之内教会本科生使用Latex。 刘建亚后来也曾花过更多的时间,在更具体的学术内容上教过别的学生,好像还是手把手形式的,效果不理想,教学时间越多的学生,反而没有教学时间少的学生成就大。 展涛老师真正教过我的,估计也就是2、3个小时。话还得从张文鹏老师那儿说起,当年跟他学的时候,张老师先给我一本潘承洞潘承彪两兄弟编的《初等数论》,然后对我说,王永晖,这本书简单,你就把它当作小说来读,两个星期就能读完,然后我就真得当小说来读,真得两周就读得差不多了,还包括做了一些基本的习题。 张老师接着掏出下一本书,《解析数论基础》,也是两个潘老师的著作,本来,张老师的功底是在Apostol写的解析数论书上,这件事我是后来才知道的,但是张老师让我的师兄看那本Apostol的书,觉得我应该看更难一点的,就对我说,王永晖,你看这本《解析数论基础》吧,这本书很难。 结果,我真得就难得看不下去了,直到今天,这本书我也没有完全掌握,据很多老师讲,也不用完全掌握,它的作用更像是一本工具字典,我也就找到了借口。 这真的就有点像气功大师传法了,说简单就简单,说难就真难。这种现象在我跟张老师之间还发生过几次,Iwaniec的教科书上有一个Selberg公式,但是没有证明,如果去查原始资料,也没有证明,按说是很简单,但要自己按他们的提示去证,我至今也找不到那种证法,后来只好用笨办法做,但有一个地方卡住了,正好张老师到北京开会,见面请教,几乎是在张老师开口的那一瞬间,我就明白了证明的全义,真有点佛家所说的“以心指心”的感觉,话说回来,张老师实际上是我所求教的那种证法的高手,也许他身上笼罩了的那种灵气,足以使我调整思维状态,悟到他想要说的内容。 这种情况,我记得在本科阶段也出现过一次,是西大数学系的一位美女问我数学问题,西大数学系很怪,我们那一级,最漂亮的女生就是学习最好的女生,漂亮跟学习水平成正比,我跟这位美女的纯洁友谊一直保持到现在。 所以,这位美女问的数学问题,并不容易,当时就把我难住了,正好要下自习回宿舍,只好跟她一起下楼,但心中闷闷不乐,正要出教学楼门口的时候,突然一瞬间看到了全部答案,也就是一秒钟,但是我把它写下来,却花了十几分钟,总算是护住了自己的面子。 可惜的是,这种灵光闪现的顿悟,在我身上还是太少了,二十年数学学习旅程中也就这么可数的几次,若是能一年有两三次,那可就是质的不同了。 路遥知马力,日久见人心,这么多年下来,我可以说,我的这几位导师,确实是本性善良的人,他们给了学生很多帮助,但是,在学生有成果之后,毕业之后,都不愿意麻烦学生。 他们对待学生,甚至会有少见的内省精神,我博士毕业到首师大工作之后的两三年里,展老师出差到北京,还召见过我两次,一次是带我去五洲大酒店混饭吃(Java公司面向教育界的推广活动),另外一次,则对我说,觉得没有指导我很多,言辞中有抱歉之情,我当时真的很感动,我的博士论文,其实就是展老师指导下做的,没有他的题目,我是不可能做出来的。 一个好的题目,是成功的一半。 我觉得,展老师的说话,是有他的想法在里面的,中国的学术搞不上去,确实跟导师的指导有很大的关系,他是从这个意义上说的,而且往自己身上说,这就是“内省”的精神,让我把这件事情能记住这么多年。但是,我自己的反应则是,我们只可能在现有的基础上走,展老师在这方面对我的指点,就是我的基础,这个指点,就真得在那关键的两三个小时。 话说,张老师说《解析数论基础》难,结果对我来说就真得难了,我在猜想,如果当年他对我说,这本书容易,你就当小说来读,不知道情况又会是怎样。 展老师呢,接收我作为博士弟子之后,才发现我对《解析数论基础》的底子很差,虽然已经录用了一篇国际杂志的文章,所以叫我先别急着写文章,好好读书,结果,我真的在博士阶段就只写了一篇文章。 《解析数论基础》这本书,真不是好读的,真正能够有感觉,就是靠了展老师,把我叫到办公室,给我讲了两三个小时,也许不到三个小时吧,往事在记忆中已经不精确了,这本书的要点是什么,这些要点的意义是什么,我方才醒悟,几年之后,我申请一些初期科研项目时,里面的话就取材于展老师的这两个小时内容。 如此看来,我不算是个笨学生。现在我很想用这种办法,来教自己的学生,却很难成行,首师大的学生,不管是本科生,还是我带的硕士生,还都必须手把手地教,花的时间多,有些话要说好几遍,他们才听得进去,但是,你要是不说呢,中国学生的实际情况就放在哪儿,他们不是不想学,但就是懵懂,既然他们已经是那样长大的,为了负责起见,我还得是像个唐僧一样。 话再回到张文鹏老师身上,我的这几位老师,虽然学术特点不一样,但是为人处世之道却很有共同之处。张文鹏老师,于我有很大的恩情,提前攻博,就是提前一年毕业找工作,真是享受到了不少好处,可是我到北京后,却从来没有麻烦过我一次。 我到北京有十三年了,请他来聊表学生之心,张老师都还没成行过一次。前年,张老师送女儿从西安到首都机场,然后他女儿再飞往澳大利亚求学,也没有说提前一两天到北京,让我招待一下,他们也可在时间上充裕放心一下,早晨他们飞到了首都机场之后,在女儿转机之前,才跟我打电话,通告一声。 张老师对我,真是至清至善。 我赶忙打的到了首都机场,只是看到了张老师女儿在登机口的身影,遥遥挥手几下,想当年读博士的时候,他们这批导师子女,还都是3~5岁之间,张老师是下午1点的飞机,只能请他喝杯咖啡,聊了不到一个小时。 张老师,出身陕西的农家子弟,身上带着很多朴素的性格,惠益学生而不取之,是山大数论这几位导师的共同特点。王小云老师后来成名,到清华大学工作,召见我议学,我把这事告诉了张文鹏老师,张老师就对我说,王小云老师是个“好娃”,陕西话,很朴素,我信。相反,如果张老师认为哪个人是“坏娃”,我也信,也就不去跟这样的人交往。 这几年,因为心念被凡尘所累,数学研究上的步伐慢了很多,以前的奋斗目标是赶上这几位老师,没想到,追了这么多年,却还没有追上,像刘建亚老师,他最近的一篇文章我竟然都读不懂了,失了力气。 前面的没追上,后面又来了追兵,师弟师妹们进步很大,有几位已经做出了很好的工作。 数学,还是会有胜负心的,有点像武林高手的比拼,文无第一,武无第二,数学可能有时候像前者,但更多的时候,对于亲历者来说,后者的感觉更多。 我在这些师承中,自觉受到刘建亚的影响最大,也许是因为我们两人都有共同的爱好---哲学性的思考。那么,从哲学角度上来说,我其实还没有跨入数学的门槛。 遥想当年二十岁的时候,决定认真地学数学,哪怕自己的资质确实一般,但认为数学会给我一个人生修炼的平台,这么走下来,感觉与二十年前相比,思维水平上真得是有很大的不同了,如果说起当年的目标,其实也可假假地告慰一下自己了,确实是通过数学的修炼,已经将自己的资质很大地提高了。 但是,数学是如此之深,就像一所庙宇,有重重的大殿,一层门槛之后还有下一层门槛,用佛家的语言来说,我现在的状态是“悟道”,是“善知识”,知道什么是对的,有效的,什么是无效的,有所感悟,但是,尚未“证道”,没有“罗汉”般的法力。 陈省身在自传中说,他自己也就是罗汉的水平,我当年读到这段时不解,觉得是不是他在自谦,有点过份了吧,现在有点会意的感觉了,菩萨境界确实不是那么好当的,在数学上能证得罗汉果位,已经是人中龙凤。 我呢,今生读书已太迟,现在的努力,只能定位于修炼,把跨入数学的门槛,选定为人生中最有价值的目标,督促自己静心立志,要珍惜来之不易的福报,再用上十年功,看看自己能做到多少。 附注1. 心血来潮写下这篇博文,对自己的数学成长之路,在心情上做一个小节。没想到科学网这么给面子,推到首页头栏。这些老师,这些事情,都是真人真事,怎么解读,是一种心态。点击量现在已经有三千多了,比我通常在幼小教育方面写的博文点击量高多了,为助大家之兴,推荐阅读我博客上另外几篇博文。 一篇还是我写的,描述的是我的首师大数学系几位同事,是工作以后的事了,也是用真名真事写的。 一篇是我组织的访谈,是正式发表的文章,海外数论专家杨同海的,挺有新闻点的。 另一篇,是刘建亚老师写的《数学文化》发刊词,我的博文也摘录了,心有戚戚焉。 附注2. 陈安:导师请学生吃饭在中国科学院是常事呀,在大学竟成“学派”特点? 我的文章,心血来潮之作,既然那么写了,反应的就是我当时读博士时候的中国国情,真人真事,全部都是实名。我知道这么写,会招来一些人的反感,怎么导师请学生吃饭,就成了你们山大数论学派的特点了,这种咬文嚼字的心理,在陈安的博文中就有表现: 『陈安:可是,再宣扬美好的东西,也说不到学派的特点是导师请吃饭吧。据我所知,在山东大学数学学院,很多导师也不时会请学生们吃饭呀。 当然,俺再理解一下,也许王永晖先生比较的是其他大学的数论“学派”而不是山东大学数学学院其他教授的团队吧。 』 我之所以敢这么写,就是知道我认识的很多数论教授(乃至有点面熟的其他方向的数学教授),即使不是出身于山大,即使不是数论方向,也不会因此跟我较真,博文而已,关键是,导师请学生吃饭,这件事对不对,有没有。 至于我不认识的学界老师们,会不会跟我较真,那就不是我的事了,您觉得导师请学生吃饭不能算是特点,好事啊。我只是讲我自己的内心感受,讲一个本科生,1993年开始研究生学习生涯,能得到长辈的饭局,这样一种心情。 『陈安:我的天,“学派”!多么强大的名字啊!』 这也是一个容易招人恨的词,正好陈安博文送了我个台阶,可以让我解释一下,在国外,数学家这个名词是比较泛的,只要是大学数学系教授,都当得起这个称呼。山东大学的潘承洞老师及其弟子们,培养的解析数论人才,人数在这个方向上是全国比例最大的,其中几位,像王小云老师的水准自不必说了,媒体报道很多,把密码学三大体系之一,干掉了一个。其他几位,媒体报道不多,比如刘建亚老师来说,我在国外访学的时候,遇到的国外数论专家,都知道刘建亚的名字,晓得他做了不错的工作。 这就够了,我们有我们的现实基础,一代人做一代人的事,能做到这个程度,算是很可以了。当年潘承洞1998年逝世的时候,大家心里都很难过,觉得解析数论的人才不济,但是十来年过去了,这不,山大数论的人才就又出来了,又能拿得出手,立得下足。 所以,我这里说的学派,就是指培养出了很多数学家的地方,我本人,早已经不是山大的人了,我这篇博文又不是申请什么国家自然科学基金,说山大数论学派,既是基于事实数据,又是怀有感念之情。 中国的科学,应该是呼吁更多的学派涌现,还是不应该,这是第一个问题,山大数论能否算上学派,这是第二个问题,确实都是值得问一问的事,所以,心血来潮之余,我还是经过了理智的思考,才保留了原始标题。 这点胆气也没有,也不用活人了。 『陈安:恰恰俺也是在山东大学数学与系统科学学院读了3年书,所知道的情况和王永晖老师知道的有不少相悖的地方,潘校长有些弟子间的相互倾轧也是有的,而且力度还挺大。当然,这个负面的东西不宜宣传,宣传出来的应该多是美好的东西。』 我知道陈安在山大读过硕士,好像是我师妹那一级,跟我差2年,但是上学的时候不认识,不住在一个楼。陈安这种说法,容易混淆人的判断,以为真是有“相互倾轧”之事,符合中国国情。 这就是我在附注1说的,怎么解读,是一种心态。不仅有“倾轧”,还要加上一个“相互”二字,陈安这么写文章,公开发表,是否有点过了。 我作为博士弟子,能了解到的情况,为什么就跟陈安这么不一样呢。如果陈安认为自己所言为真,『力度还挺大』,如果觉得这么说还不算过,好,那我就接陈安的话茬来解读 ,相当于使用一个反证法,假设前提进行推论,不过角度仍然继续使用我博文中的心态,而不是使用陈安的,我的这些导师们,不跟自己的弟子谈人事之“相互倾轧”,不争取自己的弟子,来孤立自己的敌人,即使按这种标准,能这样做的人,是不是也像我博文所判断的那样,确实是本性善良。 我的博文把标题落实到“导师请学生吃饭”上,也正是想突出这个意思,那个年代,博导是稀缺资源,做基础数学的博导,也不用弟子给他们打工,我的两篇论文,一篇硕士的,一篇博士的,都发表在国际刊物上,导师都没有署名,当时想着是自己份量不够,他们不愿联合署名而已,其实现在回过头来想想,就是我文章中的一句感言,惠益学生而不取之,如果有人对“特点”二字非常敏感,抱歉不能照顾您的心情了,这篇文章本来就不是按照您那种心态写的,只是个人的闲谈野议而已,存一份记录,对当时的国情人情能有点映照,所以还是保留原有的标题。 --------------------------------陈安原文备份----------------------------------------------------------------- 因为知道陈安有隐藏博文的习惯,这里备份一下,其实网络文章,只要一经发出就很难再自己隐藏或删除,陈安博士以前的一篇博文, 曾经被黄岩宜博主痛批过 ,他自己后来就删了,其实所写内容在网上还能找到。 这里备份一下,以保护多元化的心态共存,以资大家对这篇博文的兴趣。 陈安:导师请学生吃饭在中国科学院是常事呀,在大学竟成“学派”特点? “第7届国际数论与Smarandache问题研讨会(7th international coference on number thoery and Smarandache problems)”2011年3月25-27日在渭南师范学院召开,来自日本、俄罗斯、西班牙、印度以及中国大陆地区的20多所高等院校以及研究机构的120余人参加,他们分别来自中国科学院、西北大学、西安交通大学、浙江师范大学、海南师范大学、西南大学、空军工程大学、西北工业大学、西安工程大学、西安建筑科技大学、长安大学、咸阳师范学院、西藏民族学院、陕西师范大学、延安大学、西北政法大学、西安财经学院、南阳师范学院、惠州学院、西安邮电学院、天水师范学院、西安文理学院、宝鸡文理学院、西安财经学院、榆林学院、安康学院、西安航空职业技术学院、宝鸡职业技术学院等院校,也有来自湖北宜昌、广东深圳的数论爱好者以及部分数论方向的在读的硕士、博士研究生。大会交流作者21名,其中有印度、日本、俄罗斯、西班牙各一名,其余17名均来自中国大陆。大会执行主席分别由西北大学的张文鹏教授,西安交通大学的李媛教授,印度Harish Chandra研究所的Kalyan Chakraborty教授(Asst. 一道程序设计习题引发的--再谈数字

下学期要给本科生上《C++面向对象的程序设计》,这对我来讲是门新课。但是有讲过几次Java的基础,我还是很有信心讲好的。 今天备课时,用Code Blocks开源集成开发环境,解了谭浩强老师《C语言程序设计》中的一道习题: 求 之值,其中a是10进制的数字,n是位数。 程序最终版如下: 为了给函数起个好的英文名字,我用循环整数在Google中搜索,得知这种整数的英文名为Repdigit,汉语也译为纯位数。用Wikipedia搜Repdigit,又有了新的发现。 (1) 弗里曼数 (Friedman number)。它是一个能够用其组成数字,通过四则运算、括号和幂组成式子,结果是其自身的数。比如: 123456789 和 987654321 都是弗里曼数。分别为: 123456789 = ((86 + 2 * 7) 5 - 91) / 3 4 987654321 = (8 * (97 + 6/2) 5 + 1) / 3 4 象343这样的, 343 = (3 + 4) 3 , 组成数字在式子中出现的顺序,与在该数中出现的顺序相同的弗里曼数,称为好弗里曼数。 很显然,纯位弗里曼数(repdigit Friedman number)一定是好弗里曼数。最小的纯位弗里曼数为: 99999999 = (9 + 9/9) 9-9/9 - 9/9 【参考文献】 Beast Number: http://mathworld.wolfram.com/BeastNumber.html Repdigit: http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Repdigit.html Friedman Number http://www2.stetson.edu/~efriedma/mathmagic/0800.html (2)数字666也是纯位数之一,六六大顺在中国可是个超级吉利的数字。在西方基督教里,却是魔鬼的数字(Beast number)。数学迷们发现了数字666有许多奇妙的性质。 ① 它是前7个素数的平方和。 2 2 + 3 2 + 5 2 + 7 2 + 11 2 + 13 2 + 17 2 = 666 ② 与 666 互素的数的个数为 666 = 216个 ③ 666 = 1 6 - 2 6 + 3 6 ④ 666 = 1+ 2 + 3 + 4 + 567 + 89 = 123 + 456 + 78 + 9 = 9 + 87 + 6 + 543 + 21 ⑤ 666还是三角数(triangular number)。T 36 = 666。 ⑥ 黄金分割数

杨同海教授访谈录(《中国数学会通讯》2009年第一期) 《中国数学会通讯》2009年第一期 君 子 以 自 强 不 息 --杨同海教授访谈录 特邀主持人:王永晖,刘文新 特邀记者: 王赫楠 王永晖 ( 首都师范大学数学科学学院教授):今天我们很高兴采访美国威斯康星大学的杨同海教授,杨教授是国际知名的数论专家,他不但在数学上做出了出色的成就,而且他的人生之路非常独特,相信会对大家有所启迪。 1. 成长与求学 王永晖 :杨老师,您好!我们今天参加访谈的成员分属三个年龄层次,我 是 70 年代生人, 现在是老师,刘文新在读博士,王赫楠马上要考研,想考数学教育专业。 杨同海 (美国威斯康星大学教授,中国国家杰出青年基金( B 类)获得者):大家好!很高兴和大家做一个交流。我对教育也很感兴趣,一方面我是师范出身;另一方面,我的孩子在美国上学,一个上高一,另一个上小学。我比较了国内外的教育后发现都存在着一些问题,中国的教育比较死板 ,美国 的教育则比较放羊。 刘文新 ( 北京师范大学数学系博士生) :国内的考试太多。 杨同海 :一切都围绕着考试转,弄得小孩子没有任何的自由。高考更是一锤子买卖,给人精神压力太大。 王永晖 :您的考试能力怎样? 杨同海 :挺好的,都能及格吧。 王永晖 :我看您的简历,当初您上的是一所专科学校,为什么没考上一所很好的大学呢?抱歉,我的问题有点尖锐。 杨同海 :没关系。当时文化大革命刚结束, 77 年恢复高考,而且还开始有了数学竞赛。那时我在读高一,就参加了县里的数学竞赛,并且幸运地得到了第一名。到了 78 年高考时,县里说数学竞赛的前四名可以参加高考。 王永晖 :也就是说,您高一时就参加高考了。 杨同海 :是的。我的数学成绩比较突出,但其它科目并未达到高中毕业的水平,因此,高考的总成绩就拉下来了。当时的人们一般都比较服从安排,再说能从农村出来也很不容易,于是,在接到徽州师专的录取通知书后,我就去了。 王永晖 :您专科毕业时还很小吧?专科毕业后就去教书了吗? 杨同海 :是的,我专科毕业时还不 到 17 岁,专科毕业后我 在农村 教了4年的书。 王永晖 :您觉得这个过程是不是有点浪费时间? 杨同海 :嗯,不能说是浪费,我觉得这段时间是我人生观形成的重要阶段。在我当学生的时候,会遇到各种年龄的同学,有的年龄甚至比我大一倍还多,他们的背景和经历也是各色各样的。这使得我能够更加了解社会,看事情比较达观。表现在做学问上,就是尽力而为,做出来感觉是福气,做不出来也不特别固执。 王永晖 :我觉得您在做学问上没有什么框框,是不是因为那时候的影响?您上学时正好是中国教育传统势力不很强大的时候,可以凭自己的兴趣去自由地探索。现在的教育体制把学生压着高考、考研,到头来反而不会做学问了。 杨同海 :确实如此。冯克勤老师说过,做学问要一边学、一边做,同时也要一边做、一边学。不能把所有的东西都学完了再做,那时候热情和精力都没有了。我在做博士的时候,不懂高维的 theta 函数,打算去学。我的导师就说,你先把低维的搞清楚,一边做,一边学,一步步地前进。 刘文新 :我觉得杨老师说得很有道理。 杨同海 :在做的过程中你发现不懂的东西,再去学会更有动力。 王永晖 :您是从安徽师大硕士毕业后去的中国科大吧?您在硕士阶段学的是什么专业? 杨同海 :我在安徽师大学的是环论。从安徽师大毕业后,我到中国科大当老师,才开始跟着冯克勤、陆洪文两位老师学习数论。那时,我是又教书又当学生。 王永晖 :您到了美国后是在哪所大学? 杨同海 :马里兰大学。刚去的时候,我是跟着 Washington 教授学,他写的 《分圆域》一书很有名。我在听 Rohrlich 教授的课时, 解决了他在课堂上提出的一个问题,文章发在 Duke 杂志 上了。 后来,我又去听 Kudla 教授开的 Shimura 曲线 的课,跟他讨论问题。他有些想法,就开始指点我做,我们每周至少讨论一次。这样和 Kudla 教授 一起做了半年,就做出来了博士论文。 王永晖 :这篇文章发在哪里了? 杨同海 : 一部分发在 Crelle 杂志 上 , 另一部分发在 Compositio 杂志 上 , 还有一部分和 Rodriguez Villegas 合作 , 发表在 Duke 杂志 上。在做博士论文答辩时 , 励建书 教授提了一些建议,根据他的建议和指导,我又做了一篇文章发在 Trans. AMS 上。 王永晖 :您提到的这些教授都是数论方面的名家,您能写出这么多的好文章,是不是跟在美国有许多这方面的专家可以交流、讨论有关呢? 杨同海 :是的。和别人交流、讨论,对于做研究有许多帮助,国内这方面的专家较少,讨论就会比较少。 王永晖 : 后来您和 Kudla , Rapoport 合作了很多文章吗 ? 你们的合作有没有什么模式或约定 ? 杨同海 :一共合作了 两篇文章、一本书。也没有特别的合作模式,实际上是我和 Rapoport 在帮 Kudla 做 。 Kudla 有个很大的计划,他的猜想非常精细 , 每个都需要算清楚。他要是自己算就很费劲,我们三个人一起做,就会比较快。 王永晖 : 您当年出国后 , 有没有像现在的许多留学生一样 ,想 转成金融或计算机之类的专业呢? 杨同海 :想是想过,只是比较懒,我想等找不到工作后再说。开始找工作时,抱着试一试的态度。我面试了几个学校,然后找到了纽约州立大学石溪分校。 刘文新 :就是杨振宁教授呆的那个地方吗? 杨同海 :是的,当时他在6层,我在4层。 刘文新 :您和杨振宁教授说过话吗? 杨同海 :我们在电梯里见过一次,以后还聊过一次。石溪分校那个地方环境很好,离海边很近。第二年,我得到了一个由美国数学学会颁发的一年的 Centenial Fellowship 。这个奖项每年给两至四位数学家,用所给的经费可以到其它地方去学习。 王永晖 :现在中国好像还没有类似的奖项和经费。这个经费大概有多少? 杨同海 :那个时候是3万8千美元,不是很多。有了这个经费,我就去哈佛大学访问了一年。在这一年里,我学习了很多东西。 王永晖 :当时在哈佛大学有哪些数论方向的人呢? 杨同海 : 哈佛大学的数论很强 , 有 Mazur , Gross , Taylor , Elkies 这些名家, 还有很多博士后和访问学者。 Ken Ono 刚到威斯康星大学,他是代数数论年轻一辈中的佼佼者,他邀请我申请到威斯康星大学去。 Gross 教授 也支持我去,这样我就到了威斯康星大学。 王永晖 :这就是咱们中国人常说的人挪活,树挪死的道理吧,现在很多年轻的数学家也发现了这个道理。 杨同海 :是呀,在美国也是这样的。 王永晖 :美国的学术评价体系应该和中国的不太一样吧。在国内,主要靠 SCI 上发表文章的数量和级别来找工作、评职称等。在美国找工作或者从副教授升为正教授时,对于文章的数量或级别有没有量化的规定呢? 杨同海 :很具体的量化指标倒是没有,但文章是要看的,文章既要有高的质量,又要有一定的数量。 王永晖 :其实也要看杂志的牌子,是吧? 杨同海 :对,要看杂志的牌子和别人对你的文章的评价。一般系里要找十几个人写评价信,而且不是你自己去找。 王永晖 :在美国比较容易找,因为做数论的人多。在国内要想找十几位做数论的人来写评价,确实有些困难,而且这些人也不一定都能看得懂你的文章呀。 杨同海 :确实会有困难。但是不一定要把文章看懂,主要是看文章的重要性,影响力,和独创性。 王永晖 :最近丘成桐先生在国内有关高等教育的演讲中,也提到了评审体系。现在我们首师大数学院评职称,就是由全体教授来投票评定的。 杨同海 :那挺好。由教授们来评定,大体上来说还是很公平的。 王永晖 :在美国也是由所有的教授来评定吗? 杨同海 :先由委员会来定, 再 报到系里 , 由比你高的教授介绍你的工作 。 这些你都不必操心,只需帮助他们准备你自己的材料。 王永晖 :自己不用作报告吗? 杨同海 :不用。由比你高的教授准备你的材料和推荐信,加起来有100多页,每个教授一份,需要全票通过才行。然后上报学院和学校批准。 王永晖 :那 就是说,先由委员会 通过,再由全系教授通过,这跟国内的程序正好相反。 杨同海 :在进行的过程中,委员会 只给出建议,没有具体名额限制,整个过程自己基本上不用参与。 王永晖 :到什么时候可以评正教授呢? 杨同海 :其实评副教授是最关键的,从副教授到评正教授需要4到6年,就没有那么复杂了。在美国工资和职称有时不成正比,会出现副教授比教授工资高的情况,工资的高低是需要谈判的。 王永晖 :那您擅长谈判吗? 杨同海 :我不擅长,工资差不多就行了。 王永晖 :威斯康星大学在美国大学中的排名怎样?数学的排名又怎样? 杨同海 :挺靠前的。数学大概是前十几名左右。要是看研究,我们是很靠前的。要是看大学教育,我们就在中间了,因为我们是公立学校,要招收很多学生。 王永晖 :您所在的系里从事数论研究的人还挺多的吧? 杨同海 :有4个教授,还有3个博士后。 王永晖 :在国外大学的每个数学系里,好像都有几位做数论的人,相比之下,国内做数论的人确实太少了。 杨同海 :国内的一些数论分支起步较晚。比如,在70年代末,冯克勤老师等人才开始做代数数论。现代代数数论是50年代后期发展起来的,正赶上中国的大跃进和文化大革命。当然,现在情况已经好了很多。 2. 基金会 王永晖 :我读过一些数学家的传记,里面描写了数学家如何得到社会的关爱和支持,逐步走向成功。但由数学家来设立慈善机构帮助其他人,我还是头一回听说。杨老师,听说您在家乡安徽宁国成立了一个教育基金会。 杨同海 :对。我们有两个基金会,一个在美国,叫 Hometown Education Foundation ,另一个在国内,叫宁国市中美爱心促进会。美国那边的基金会主要由我来操作,国内的则由胡寄宁先生主管。他是我在徽州师专时的同学,做事非常认真。我们的网站是 www .loveedu.org.cn (中国), www.HometownEducation.org (美国)。 从2004年开始,我每年回家都会去乡下调查,到学生家里看看。他们确实很穷,非常感谢我们的资助。大家可以从我们的网站上看到相关的照片,也希望得到大家的支持。 王永晖 :胡先生在那里算是兼职,是吗? 杨同海 :我们都是兼职,没有人挣钱,都是往里贴钱。 王永晖 :这在操作过程中如何体现呢? 杨同海 :其实很简单。你可以在网上查到,每个人捐了多少钱,一共用了多少,资助了哪些学生。比如,去年暑假,我带了两万美元回来,加上国内约十万元的捐款,共资助了473名学生。今年我带了两万四千美元回来,加上国内的十几万元捐款, 共 资助600多名学生。 我们宁国市中美爱心促进会是由宁国市民政局正式批准的一个慈善组织。每年的账目民政局都会检查,是公开的。至于资助流程是这样的:首先由学生填表,班主任及另一位老师签字确认,学校申报。我们确认后就进行资助。我们每年分两次进行资助,每学期一半。资助款主要用于资助学生的书本费,如有剩余再发给学生作为生活补贴。 王永晖 :那么,资助额度是多少呢? 杨同海 :小学生每年200-400元,初中生每年400-600元,高中生每年1000-1200元。并且我们有许多一帮一的,一年的费用分别为400,600和1000元(美国1200元)。 王永晖 :按道理来讲,学生的学杂费都应是由国家来承担的呀!近几年国家也出台了相关政策,免除学生的学费和学杂费。 杨同海 :是呀。学杂费刚免除。我们的资助款主要用于学生的书本费。初中学生每年的书本费不到600元,但是我们给600元,多出的部分帮助他们解决在学校住宿和吃饭的一些费用。农村的孩子读书,基本上离家很远,中午在学校吃午饭,有些还得住校。 王永晖 : 当年中日甲午战争,中国对日本的赔款,日本很多都用在了教育当中,学杂费全免,而且管学生一顿午饭。 杨同海 :美国也是这样的。家庭十分困难的,早餐和午餐费就全免;家庭较困难的,早餐和午餐费适当减免;家庭还可以的,早餐和午餐费就交相应的费用。家庭困难与否,要看是否得到了国家的资助。 王永晖 :您现在做的事,实际上是在替国家做。 杨同海 :我们只是尽力帮助特别需要帮助的贫困学生。贫困学生等不及国家的政策,现在就需要我们大家的帮助继续读书。 刘文新 :宁国是革命老区吗? 杨同海 :不是。宁国的生活在安徽来说算是不错的,所以也比较好做事情。在整个资助过程中,实际工作还是很辛苦的。我们促进会的会长是胡寄宁,另外还有一名会计。目前,还有一个朋友在帮忙。他们都很辛苦。 王永晖 :要是有教育系统内部的人帮忙就会好多了。 杨同海 :对,但教课的老师一般都比较忙。胡寄宁在教委工作,他很有爱心,最早我是和他谈起办促进会这个事情的。原来我经常听说,有人因为上不起高中,就去卖血等等,所以我就有了资助学生上高中的最初想法。后来胡寄宁跟我说,其实小学和初中也有很多的问题。我到农村去了解情况时,看到最凄惨的情况之一就是:父母一个懒,一个傻,爷爷奶奶想管孩子上学又无能为力,实在可怜。 王永晖 :您做了这么多的善事,您现在回宁国,是不是人们都认识您? 杨同海 :资助都是以促进会的名义进行的,而不是以我个人的名义。 王永晖 :您每年资助600多个学生,影响力应该很大呀! 杨同海 :中美爱心促进会的影响力在当地是相当大的。 王永晖 :您当时为什么选择在宁国市做,而不选择在您的村里做呢? 杨同海 :在宁国市做能帮助更多的学生,影响力也更大些。帮助生人也很好,两个人没有任何关系,也牵扯不到谁欠谁的情。办完就完了,不用再想其它的了。 王永晖 :前些日子,有些慈善机构要求学生感恩,弄得很不愉快。 杨同海 :我也听说过这些事情,觉得实在没必要。钱对于每个人的作用不同,几百块钱对我们来说不算什么,但对于贫困学生来说,那是至关重要的,这可以帮助他们顺利完成学业。 王永晖 :像您这样的心态很好。您要求那些学生写感谢信之类的吗? 杨同海 :在一帮一的资助中,是需要写的。这不单是感谢信,更重要的是让资助者及时了解他们所资助的学生的情况。像在美国,有的人资助好几个学生,他并不需要学生感恩,也不在乎学生的成绩怎么样。彼此的通信只是想了解学生的情况,另一方面,还让资助者掌握他的资助款的去向。把学生的基本情况,包括电话、通信地址告诉他,会便于了解情况。 王永晖 :捐款的一般都是哪些人呢? 杨同海 :为我们捐款的人来自祖国的东西南北,还有 很多 外国人。其中 大部分 不是宁国人,很多人和宁国没任何关系,他们甚至不知道宁国市在哪里,但知道哪些贫困学生需要资助,因为我们在网上有介绍。 王永晖 :有匿名捐款的吗? 杨同海 :有呀。有些人不愿意把名字放上,就匿名捐了。 王永晖 :中国人的家乡观念、团体观念都是比较重的。大学里有校友会,就是联络校友给自己的学校做些事情。 杨同海 :咱们中国人为亲人和朋友们办事,都是尽心尽力的。对于不认识的人,好像就会有我为什么要做这种想法。但随着时代的进步,人们的想法也都在变。 王永晖 :您在美国的基金会是真正的基金会吗?在美国办这种基金会手续复杂吗? 杨同海 :是真正的基金会。一开始很简单,申请一个号就行了,正式批准会麻烦一些。 王永晖 :您的基金会正式批准了吗?需要律师帮助您吗? 杨同海 :2005年正式批准的。不需要律师 , 自己就可以做。正式批准后,公司来捐款时,就可以免税。有些公司像微软、摩托罗拉等,捐款政策是公司员工捐一块,公司也捐一块,实际上就是两块。 王永晖 :您有没有计划把您的基金会做得更大一些呢? 杨同海 :过些年再说吧。做这个事情的关键是要有人去操作,我想再以同样的方式做一两个县是没问题的。 王永晖 :当时怎么会有想法去做这些事呢?您开始做时已经是副教授了吗? 杨同海 :原因我前面已经说了一些。我当时是副教授了,拿到了 终身职位 。但我早在这之前就有想法了,不过我不知道别人怎么看待这件事。我2000年回国后,就着手准备这件事,直到2004年才正式开始做。 王永晖 :如果按传统的观念,会有人说您是不务正业。 杨同海 :是这样的。不过实际效果是挺好的,有许多人受益,而我也没耽误自己的学业。 王永晖 :在国内的这个为什么叫促进会而不叫基金会呢? 杨同海 :在国内做基金会是要有很大规模的。 王永晖 :您有没有想法再在大学生这个层面上来做呢? 杨同海 :还没有。资助大学生需要很多钱,会大大超出我目前的能力。 王永晖 :您的基金会在工作流程上一定很有特色吧! 杨同海 :我们在工作流程上是比较简单的,我们的资助比较持续,将小孩子从小学一直资助到高中毕业。 政府有两个大的工程,一个是希望工程,另一个是妇联的春蕾计划。希望工程的覆盖面很广,平均资助较少;春蕾计划相对比较分散,一次性资助。现在有些华侨找侨联办慈善事业,基本上是参照我们的模式,先找些需要资助的孩子,将他们从小管到大。 刘文新 :在假期里,您有没有把500多人集中起来搞些什么活动呢? 杨同海 :没有。由于面子等原因,有些人不愿意让别人知道自己受资助。 王永晖 :您现在只是资助,有没有设立奖学金之类的项目? 杨同海 :没有。我们的目的是帮助贫困学生得到最基本的教育。 王永晖 :杨老师在工作之余从事慈善事业,这在数学家里非常独特,希望这些学生能早日成为国家的有用人材。 3. 健康 王永晖 :令我很感动的是,杨老师这样关怀别人,而他自己的健康情况却非常不好。 我听说您前两年做过一个换肾手术,我们可否谈一谈关于健康的话题,这对于大家也是一个提醒。 杨同海 :我们每年都要做体检的,但其中有两年我没去。2004年秋天,我总觉得有些累,想想可能是数学做多了的缘故。在体检验血时发现肾指标不对,就去找专家,专家说我的肾很快就没有用了。 王永晖 :您具体是一种什么感觉呢?有没有觉得腰疼之类的? 杨同海 :就感觉累、困,没有什么其它的不适。检查结果出来后,医生要我排队换肾。当时已经到了第四期后期,第五期就是肾衰竭,说明问题已经相当严重了。 王永晖 :您在等肾源的过程中,有没有尝试回国用中医来治疗? 杨同海 :我咨询过,但是自己不敢尝试,我是严格按照医生制定的方案来做的。 王永晖 :那您的肾怎么会出问题呢? 杨同海 :当时查不出来,医生认为可能与高血压有关。 王永晖 :我听说您家乡宁国的水土不太好。 杨同海 :这也许是一个原因。因为水中的金属含量很高,所以许多宁国人被检查出有肾结石。我的肾已经萎缩了,所以有没有结石也不清楚。 我刚知道自己的病情时,我们全家都很紧张,不知该怎么办。大约一个月之后,才慢慢调整过来。刚开始真是痛苦,也不知道自己能活多久,而且医生说必须要做透析。 王永晖 :您后来做了吗? 杨同海 :没有,我的运气比较好,只有当肾完全没用时才做透析。医生说没什么可怕的,但想起来还是挺可怕的,把浑身的血都抽出来,借助外在设备洗干净后再送回去。 刘文新 :那要花很多治疗费吧! 杨同海 :在美国,我有保险,可以报销。 王永晖 :保险是国家的吗? 杨同海 :是学校提供的保险。在美国,如果肾病患者没有保险,国家也会给予帮助的。从80年代肾移植技术出现后,美国相关部门就颁布了法律,肾病患者由 Medicare 这个机构提供帮助。 王永晖 :这说明美国这类病人很少吧! 杨同海 :不,有很多人。每年约有6万多人等待肾源,而只有1万多人能实施手术,因为没有足够的肾源。 王永晖 :可以从中国寻求肾源吗? 杨同海 :如果那样的话,就要到中国来做手术。 王永晖 :那还挺复杂的。您知道整个手术的大概费用吗? 杨同海 :有十几万美金吧。之所以说我很幸运,是因为我只等了半年就找到了匹配的肾源。 刘文新 :您那段时间还做数学吗? 杨同海 :还是会想想的。 刘文新 :一般人到了这个份儿上,恐怕都去看小说了。 杨同海 :小说也看,数学也要做,只不过不像以前搞得那么累了。 王永晖 :系里知道您的病情后,还给您安排课吗? 杨同海 :那个学期还在继续教,接下来的学期我就做手术了,课程方面请一些朋友和同事帮忙,他们都很乐意帮助我。 王永晖 :您是换了一个肾,还是两个肾都换啦? 杨同海 :实际上不是换肾,只是外加了一个肾进去,新肾代替旧肾的功能。新肾就放在腹部这个位置,因为这样植入比较方便。 王赫楠 (首都师范大学数学科学学院本科生):那就是说以前的肾还在呀,您要不说我们还真不懂。 王永晖 :您是不是因为做数学太累,工作太投入,以至于肾出了问题都没有察觉? 杨同海 :那么多数学家都很投入呀!他们也都很好嘛。医学上的事情很难说。 王永晖 :我自己做数学没投入到您那种地步,身体稍有不适就歇着了。 杨同海 :这样也对,身体太重要了!一旦身体不舒服,就应该马上到医院检查,而且每年都要做体检,疾病要早发现早治疗!我要是早知道病情,也不会到那种地步了。 王永晖 :您现在还在继续吃药吗? 杨同海 :我一直在吃反排斥的药。 王永晖 :我看您现在工作还特别勤奋,在讨论班上和同事们讨论问题很激烈。 杨同海 :我现在也比较注意休息了。 王永晖 :您除了数学和基金会以外,还有什么其它的爱好吗? 杨同海 :喜欢打乒乓球。有时在家里打,有时到当地的俱乐部去打。 王永晖 :乒乓球的运动量还是挺大的,我向您推荐打太极拳。 杨同海 :我学过太极拳,但没学会。我还喜欢走路。 王永晖 :走路也很好。您换完肾后要不要特别注意点什么呢? 杨同海 :不用。在美国反倒不像国内那么讲究,能和平常一样过日子就行了。 王永晖 :估计您的幸运与您的性格有关。您的性格是不是受家庭的影响?您父母是不是都很开朗? 杨同海 :我父母都是农民,他们聪明、开朗、乐于助人,对我的影响很大。 王永晖 :您做基金会有没有听取父母的意见? 杨同海 :我父亲已经过世了,但我想他一定会支持的。我母亲保持中立,主要是怕我累坏了。 王永晖 :今天很高兴和杨老师谈了方方面面的事情,学到了很多东西。我们的古人说过:天行健,君子以自强不息。我想这句话用在杨老师身上是很贴切的,他的经历对于大家特别是我们年轻一代会很有启迪。在此,我们衷心地祝愿杨老师身体健康,在数学和基金会两方面不断做出新成绩! 杨同海 :谢谢大家! 这是我们去年暑假做的,跟杨同海老师已经认识好几年了,很喜欢他的性格,感觉他身上有新闻点。所以去年暑假,上午我们听完一个报告后,下午大家找了个咖啡馆聊了3个小时,文字润色过几次,完成了数学会通讯的这个不限期任务。 我还是喜欢数学工作者采访数学工作者的数学科普方法,这方面,台湾做得很不错。大家可以看看刘太平采访丘成桐的文章,水平比国内的相同采访文章,要高很多。 doc链接的版本,是数学会通讯的正式版式,比较好看。已距发表日期数月了,所以《通讯》已允许拿到博客上晒了。 interview.doc

仰望星空的空竹丫头妹子,确实魅力无穷。我也追着大伙,再一次仰望我们头顶上的星空。不过这里我要告诉你们大伙,星空在它总是表现为如此美丽的同时,她还时不时地表现得非常地无理。 容我先在科学网上的众多数学界与天文学界的鲁班们面前,舞弄一下我手中的好大一把斧头,圈一圈我用来玩杂耍的场子。 我们都知道,数有无理数与有理数,什么是无理数?请别问我,直接去问上帝他老哥去,由他负责给我们大家科普。但我可以告诉大伙,自然界中,有一些我们所知道的无理数,很有名气,例如 e=2.718 ,还有 PI=3.14159 ,对了。我这里先谈 PI , PI 这个无理的家伙,如何搅乎得我们头顶上原本美丽的星空,同时也变得如此无理。 实际上,我们人类对于星空表现为如此无理的这种认识,甚至可以追溯到远古时代的巴比伦、埃及和中国。其中,阿基米德所建立的 PI 值理论估算,在数学发展史上具有重要的历史地位。 PI 值同时也与几何学中著名的布丰( Buffon) 落针实验的概率问题紧密联系;但如说咱们中国人的话,那么祖乃 甡 先生的祖上祖冲之对PI的贡献是肯定绕不开的。 2001 年8月6日, Nature的NSU栏目, 曾以 PI 相关热点问题, 报道了是时数学界关于 PI 值的研究方面所引发的一些混乱。 更具体一些,又是哪位科学家舞动 PI 的大棒,使得原本美丽的星空,变得如此无理呢? 答案是,一个名叫马休斯( Matthews) 的老兄,与《悲惨世界》的那个男主人公之一的名字,取得一模一样。 首先,马休斯 在 我们头顶上的星空中,根据星星的星等亮度,选取了 100 颗最为明亮的星星,计算这些明亮星星间的角距离。然后,马休斯拿来了一把尺子,当然,这把尺子的刻度大小要比较恰当,不能够刻度间隔太长,好比你拿一把每隔 1 公里 长一个刻度的尺子,去度量一个人的身高一般;当然也不能够太短,太短了你量出来一个人的身高,就变成了这个人身高多少多少乘以 10 的多少多少次方纳米了。 回过头来,马休斯知道了这些角距离,也拿到了一把非常顺手的尺子以后,他便开始用这把尺子,一个一个地度量这些角距离,并且记下它们的读数。简单说吧,如果读出来某个角距离为 8926.85 尺子单位,马休斯很大方,把小数点后面的 0.85 扔掉,他只记下 8926 这个整数来。 马休斯人很努力啊, 不怕麻烦,就用这把尺子,采用上面的办法,在天空当中最为明亮的这 100 个星星中,任意抽取两个星星,度量其角距离,用尺子度量,然后得到了相应的整数。大伙可以算算,这些所有整数的数量应该很多很多吧,具体有多少?我估计,应该与电视上见到的福利彩票机的吐小球游戏差不多,也就是说,与在 100 个不同颜色的小球中,随机抽取两个小球出来,问有多少种不同抽取办法的这种情况相类似。 剩下的事情就变得非常简单,马休斯利用分析数论 的相关知识:任意随机选取两个 整数 , 它们 相对互素(即除 1 以外没有其它公约数 ) 的概率为 6/PI 2 。这样,马休斯通过他已经得到的所有这些整数,任取两个整数,看看他们是否互为素数。 一番劳累之后,马休斯得出结论,以此分析数论的 PI 值估算方式,得到了估计出来的 PI 值关于真值的相对误差,竟然小于 0.4% 的有意思的结论。也就是说,对位于我们头顶上最为明亮的 100 颗星星,通过马休斯所进行的一番捣鼓,他给出了 PI 介于 3.1414 与 3.1417 之间的数值估计。 大伙看看,马休斯 这位老兄是不是很 牛?还有,我们头顶上的美丽星空,表现得是不是也很无理? 参考文献 Matthews R A J. , Pi in the sky , .
