科学网名博武夷山老师的连载《英汉词典查不到》到了第28集 http://blog.sciencenet.cn/home.php?mod=spaceuid=1557do=blogid=519058 是个非常好的学习素材。不才搭个顺风车，宣传一个英汉词典查不到的词。 Unipedal 单足的 与这个词对应的是 bipedal （双足的），这个词在任何词典里都查不到，但在生物学或康复工程中确实存在。 这个词最早应该是出现在 1829 年出版的 Charles MacFarlane 《康氏坦丁堡 1828 》（ Constantinople in 1828 ）中，在 google 图书中可以看到这本书。作者在书中描述士麦那的女人们的一种坐姿用到这个词，书中描述这种姿势 “ 甚至在公司里，女士们的标准坐姿是一条腿盘在沙发上并被坐在身体下面，而另一条腿从沙发边上垂下来 ” 。一个到访的法国人生平第一次见到这种成排的女士 “unipedal exhibition” ，问道是否全城的女人只有一条腿啊。怎么说呢，只能说这些欧洲人少见多怪，不只在土耳其女人喜欢这样坐，我想很多中国人也喜欢这样坐。至少我是喜欢这样坐着，无论在炕上、沙发上还是在椅子上。但我没觉得这是一种标准姿势，完全是下意识的行为，当然在某些场合下会显得很随意而不雅。 稍后，这个词出现在 1877 年的一份报纸（ The Era ）的广告中 Original.
