General relativity--it's not about physics

I never felt poor when I was a kid, since I was given RMB1.0 each month when a penny could afford me a hard candy in the 1960s. I saved the allowance religiously every month, and took it out at the end of the year, with the highest interest. What did I do then? Stupidly, I handed the money to my mom, and asked for a new dress or a new swimming suit. (WHY didn't I just spend the money as my brother did, to buy a dog, or a few pigeons that shit on our neighbors' clothes, which were being line-dried; and the birds all flew away one day...) When I was in college, I was able to withdraw RMB5.0 less each month. (It's nothing to you now, but RMB10.0 was all I needed for food in a whole month!) When I was in graduate school in Guangzhou in the early 1980s, I was paid nearly as much as those who worked and could afford almost anything I wanted (since you couldn't buy an apartment or a car then). When I was a Ph.D candidate in the US in the late 1980s, I was spending USD1.0/min on calls to China. I could talk for half an hour each time, since I earned this money as extra; easy come easy go. I never thought about buying a house or a new car, even though some of my Chinese (and Taiwanese) schoolmates were doing so. I only started to feel poor after I got my first job at NASA in Greenbelt, Maryland. It's the mortgage! Now, it's the mortgage plus college tuition... For a college student, making USD2,000 in one summer seems a lot of money; he feels rich. I should just let him enjoy his feeling rich. (Parents should not always tell their kids what's right and what's wrong. Let the kids enjoy their lives, make some mistakes, and learn some hard lessons. It will do them good in a long run.

Study on the invariance of the phase of plane waves

In recent study, the invariance of the phase of plane waves among all inertial frames is challenged by a counter-example, that is, there is the negative frequency of plane waves in the case ofsuperluminal motion of the medium, where the four-vector ( k , /c) of plane waves is exceptionally not Lorentz-covariant. A new argument that the conventional invariance of the phase of plane waves should be replaced by the invariance of the phase difference of plane waves among all inertial frames is presented. Based on our argument, the explanation to the counter-example is worked out. The result shows that the four-vector of plane waves is still Lorentz-covariant. Study on the invariance of the phase of plane wave 原来的想法是无论写出任何文章,只要中文期刊能够发表,那就用中文发表。就当是爱国了,实际是英文太差。可事实上太难了!无法实现的。08年的一篇会议文章被一不入流的中文科技核心主动录用,录用两年多了,版面费交了也两年多了,就是发不出来。理由是:找不到合适的审稿人,还要继续找。 没办法,只有卖国求荣了,把原本就学不会的英文搬出来试试。希望各位指教!

A rigorous derivation of the Lorentz transformation based on minimum assumptions

Abstract. Besides Einsteins two fundamental postulates, additional assumptions are made in various derivations of the Lorentz transformation (LT). Two or three so-called exact derivations of the LT have been highly abstract and abstruse. Thus, the validity of the derivation of the LT has been questioned. Here, we present a rigorous derivation of the LT, the approach of which differs from that typically employed. Our derivation is only based on the constancy of the speed of light and two thought experiments. Experimentalresultsandobservationshaveshownthatthespeedoflightisthesameforallobservers, regardlessoftherelativemotionofthesourceandtheobservers.Thishasledtotheconclusionthat speedoflightisconstant.Butthephysicalmechanismbehindthisphenomenonisunknown.Herethis studyshowsthatgravitationalfieldfunctionsasamediumforlightandthemotionofthesourceortheobserverwillcausetheirgravitationalfieldintensityshift(GFIS)similartotheDopplershift.Becauseof theGFIS,theobservedspeedoflightisinvariantregardlessofthestateofmotionofthesourceorthe observer.TheGFISnotonlyaffectsthepropagationoflightbutalsocouldexpressanextragravitational forcewheninteractionoccurswithotherobject.Forexample,theadvanceoftheperihelionprecession ofMercuryandthesimilarphenomenoninbinarypulsarsarecausedbyanextragravitationalforcebut noonecouldfindthephysicalsourceoftheforce.TheGFISshowsthattheextraforcecomesfromthe motion.Mercuryaccelerateswhenitisapproachingtheperihelion.TheaccelerationwillcauseatemporaryincreaseofitsgravitationalfieldintensitybecauseoftheGFIS.Theincreaseofgravitationalfieldintensity willcreateanextragravitationalforce,whichpullsMercuryslightlyclosertothesunandcausesthe periheliontoadvance.ItshouldbethesameinthebinarypulsarPSR1913+16.Newton’stheorydoes notfullyexplaintheperihelionprecessionofMercurybecauseinhistheorytheGFISeffectisnotincluded.Anotherexampleistheelongationoflifetimeofthemuons.Whenmuonsaretravelingat98%ofthe speedoflight,itsgravitationalfieldintensitywillbeincreasedsignificantlyduetotheGFIS.Theenhancedgravitationalfieldintensitywillslowdownthedecayofthemuonsassameasthespeedoflight.Asa resultitslifetimeiselongated.
