Ten Simple Rules for Approaching a New Job http://www.ploscompbiol.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pcbi.1003660 A brand new paper on suggestions for the life. I am wondering whether to translate it into chinese.
Job is among my favorite chapters in Holy Bible . I have read it for several times. I like its dramatic plot and lively main characters, but I do not agree with its theme. However, it is a characteristic of great classics that any readers can find more than the writers tried to express. First, the plot of Job is simple but dramatic. Long time ago, a man named Job lived in northwest Arabia. He worshiped the Lord and was nice to all people, and therefore he was rich and happy. In the beginning of the story, Satan pursued the Lord to test Job to see if Job would still serve the Lord when the Lord did not bless him. The lord, somehow, agreed to let Satan take away all form Job, including his wealth, his children, and finally, his health. As a result, Job lost everything. At first, Job felt easy because he believed, “If we accept blessings from God, we must accept trouble as well.” Then three of Job’s friends came to comfort, actually to disturb, him, because they insisted that the Lord must be punishing Job for his sin. Job answered that he was innocent, and argued with the friends back and forth, until the friends gave up without any agreement. During the argument, Job asked the Lord to appear and to explain why he was suffering, but finally he realized that human beings are lack of such wisdom to answer the deep questions of the life. At this point, a young bystander began to criticize both sides. Actually, he suggested that Job should ask the Lord for help rather than claim his innocent. The Lord, at last, appeared to them, but he did not explain anything. He just showed that humans could not understand many things he did, and criticized Job for talking so much while knowing so little. He also criticized the three friends for not telling the truth, as Job had said about the Lord is true. At the end, the Lord blessed Job and made him twice as wealthy as he had been. Second, main characters in Job are vivid. Job was a nice man and faithful to the Lord, but he became rather exciting in the argument. Facing the Lord, Job awed him so much that he forgot all his questions. The Lord was powerful and willful. He blessed his people in the way beyond the understanding of modern men. He allowed Satan to kill all Job’s children, 7 sons and 3 daughters, and then let Job have other 7 sons and 3 daughters. The Lord thought it was a happy end, but I doubt if Job have ever mourned his dead children. Acutally, the Lord in Old Testament is different from the Lord in New Testament. He was powerful, but not beneficent. He might bless his people, but did not love them. As for other characters, Satan was clever. He took advantage of the Lord’s arrogance to make some trouble for him. The three friends were so similar that I cannot tell any deference among them. I guess that the writer used three friends instead of one to indicate their views widely-acceptable, rather than personal. That young bystander was very shrewd. He admired the Lord a lot. Indeed, the Lord finally said nothing about him. Third, Job addressed an important problem. Why do innocent people suffer? Unfortunately, the writer failed to give an acceptable answer. He tried to pursue readers to believe that human being could not understand such problem. I have not been convinced. Anyway, an insightful problem is significant enough. Last but not least, anyone can find something interesting in Job , which may be beyond the writer’s intention. For example, I inferred that, in the writer’s view, the property is much important than the life, because all Job’s oaths were about his property, and “the happy ending” only meant more property, regardless all lives lost, his dead children and servants. Besides, in the biblical world, there is no destiny beyond the Lord’s control. The Lord can do what he wants. On contrary, in the Greek pantheon, even Zeus could not change certain destiny. In conclusions, Job deserves to be perused. It has impressive plot and picturesque characters. It raises a noteworthy problem, though it dose not present a satisfactory answer. What is more, it makes its readers think a lot.

”A quick and dirty job” 暂无好的译文 请教: ”A quick and dirty job” 中文怎么翻译? 据有人考证,该词来源与表示“投资少、生产快的 B 级电影”及“快速性交或草草完事的性交或所谓的“快餐””的“ quickie ” ( ... originally late 1920s Hollywood slang for a Grade B movie, a film comparatively cheap and quick to produce. By the 1930s the term was being used to mean a quick act of sexual intercourse.

Ok, what I meant to say is 在国内找不到工作就出国好了! I have no intention to hurt China, my birth country. If you can agree to that, then you might see my suggestion makes good sense. One of the biggest problems in China is there are too many talented people but not enough jobs for everyone. The same project that needs 8 people is wanted by 18. What the government should do is to actually set up a fund for 万人计划, or even 千万人计划, encouraging jobless Chinese to go abroad, instead of buying more U.S. debts. Think about it; this could be the best investment the government can ever make, charging 3-5% interest if necessary. In 5-10 years, some of these people may own a company, or a restaurant, in every corner of the world! p.s. I just had a simple lunch, with no drinks.
TITLE: PostDoc: Control of organelle shape by Myosin 1b Possible starting date: October 2009 A 3 year post-doc position is available at the Institut Curie (Paris, France), both in the Laboratories PhysicoChimie Curie and Compartimentation et Dynamique Cellulaires. The project is financially supported by Agence Nationale de la Recherche (Coord.: E. Coudrier ). Recent progress in studying the role of myosins in membrane traffic has provided new insight on the link between these motors and other protein machineries involved in trafficking. The challenge now is to understand the molecular mechanisms by which these myosins contribute to membrane traffic and whether they act in a coordinated way with the other protein complexes to control the shape of organelles. The goal of our project is to unravel the molecular mechanism by which one of the single headed myosin involved in membrane traffic, myosin1b (Myo1b) regulates the traffic along the endocytic pathway. The mechanochemical properties of Myo1b suggest that it is a membrane-associated motor able to develop tension on membrane domains. In controlling the site of polymerisation of actin on sorting endosomes, Myo1b may localise and transduce the force generated by actin polymerization on the membrane of endosomes and thereby be one of the players involved in membrane budding or membrane scission. The objective of the post-doc will be to develop biomimetic assays to measure the force generated by Myo1b and determine whether this force contributes to membrane tension of endosomes and control their shape. The project will involve Myosin 1b and mutants purification, in vitro study of its interaction with lipid membranes, and eventually physical measurements of membrane tension and forces using optical tweezers on Giant liposomes This project involves different teams in the Curie Institute, working in cell biology (E. Coudrier), electron microscopy (G. Raposos and D. Lvy) and biophysics (P. Bassereau and C. Sykes). Profile: The applicant should have a PhD in experimental physics, chemical engineering or biophysics, and show interest for interdisciplinary work at the interface between physics, biology and biochemistry. Experience in membrane micromanipulation would be appreciated, but is not absolutely required. There is no nationality restriction. If you are interested by this proposal, please send your CV, a motivation letter, and contact information of two researchers with whom you have worked in the past.
