我们班的英语作文:很多人都支持Starbucks咖啡滚出故宫,我想说点反对意见。 After six years’ quiescent residence in the Forbidden City, the famous cafe Starbuck was exposed to a widespread debate provoked by a blog by Cheng-gang Rui, a famous anchorman in China Central Television (CCTV). Rui wrote that Starbucks' presence undermined the Forbidden City's solemnity and trampled over Chinese culture. And an online campaign arguing that the Starbucks was trampling on Chinese culture had drawn more than 500,000 signatures. Finally Starbucks closed its store in the Forbidden City after months of controversy. However, I do not think that Starbucks needs to get out of the Forbidden City and I have several reasons for that. First of all, as an ancient civilization with more than five thousand years of history, Chinese culture should be confident. If we review the development process went through by Chinese culture, we may conclude that Chinese culture gained its diversity and strength by conflicting with foreign cultures. This conflicting process helps the growth of Chinese culture. As a matter in fact, the period we are experiencing is just one of numerous periods that Chinese culture has to undergo. The artificial intervention may interrupt the natural process for Chinese culture to get mature. Just like trees in the nature, the best way to ensure their health is to leave them alone. They can actually benefit from the sunshine, rain and wind. Secondly, inclusiveness is one of the most important characteristics of Chinese culture. Chinese culture believes in tolerance making larger. Due to the extraordinary inclusiveness, Chinese culture becomes much more colorful and influential in a way of discarding the dross and selecting the essence. The Starbucks’ presence in the Forbidden City should not be regarded as a sign that Starbucks was eroding Chinese culture. Starbucks is just an international commercial coffee shop, and it plays a practical role in serving people visiting the Forbidden City. People come to the Forbidden City in order to appreciate and admire the ancient Chinese culture, not for coffee in the Starbucks. We should be tolerant of foreign cultures. And we should also bear in mind that internationalization is a trend we cannot avoid and should not avoid. Objectively speaking, protesting the Forbidden City’s Starbuck is against inclusiveness, the essence of Chines culture. Thirdly, it is against the principal of justice to ask for the leave of Starbucks. Starbucks is a coffee shop with legal operation qualifications . Just like other shops in the Forbidden City, Starbucks has the rights to provide services to tourists to earn money. The purpose of these shops is merely commercial, not cultural. Along with Starbucks, all shops should be regarded equally. As long as they have the legal operation qualifications, they can stay in the Forbidden City. The so-called ‘eroding Chinese culture’ is unsubstantial and illegal. Fourthly, Starbucks serves as a resting home for international tourists. Starbucks is a popular coffee bar welcomed by the majority. Travelling in the Forbidden City can easily get tired. Starbucks makes visitors from different countries feel at home, and this makes the visiting much more enjoyable. Probably, because of the service provided by Starbucks, the Forbidden City may attract more visitors all around the world. Actually, the Forbidden City can better adapt to the globalization by providing diverse services. The Forbidden City should embrace its arms to welcome people from all around the world. Only in this way can people in the world better understand Chinese Culture. Finally, I want to point out that the traditional culture is also becoming a means of survival. Nowadays the Forbidden City is hardly merely an exhibition of ancient Chinese culture. The culture is actually regarded as a commercial tool to promote the development of tourism and economics. It is unfair that we criticize the presence of Starbucks in the Forbidden City because of its discordance with ancient Chinese culture . All other commercial shops are also conflicting with the essence of ancient Chinese culture. Just like other shops in the Forbidden City, Starbucks provides jobs for local people, stimulates commercial consumption and promotes economic development. In sum, I suppose that Starbucks does not need to get out of the Forbidden City. The Forbidden City is still Forbidden City despite of the presence of Starbucks.
