Australians all let us rejoice, For we are young and free; We've golden soil and wealth for toil, Our home is girt by sea; Our land abounds in nature's gifts Of beauty rich and rare; In history's page, let every stage Advance Australia Fair. In joyful strains then let us sing, Advance Australia Fair. Beneath our radiant Southern Cross, We'll toil with hearts and hands; To make this Commonwealth of ours Renowned of all the lands; For those who've come across the seas We've boundless plains to share; With courage let us all combine To Advance Australia Fair. In joyful strains then let us sing, Advance Australia Fair.
这是一段当时在飞机上用PDA上快速手写下的文字 : “The Netherlands is just like 江南水乡in China. There are rivers everywhere. When you look down upon from the airplane, it really looks like a green chess board, with so many regular rivers crossing square green fields. The beautiful sunset was like a naughty kid, jumping from one river to another, making your heart full of delight and joy.”
实例:较差的标题 “Degeneration of neurons in the CA3 and DG following OA administration: involvement of a MAPK-dependent pathway in regional-specific neuronal degeneration” 这个标题太长,含有非标准的缩略语,内容重复,部分内容太具体。修改如下:“Region-specific neuronal degeneration after okadaic acid administration”。 练习: 丁香园网友应邀对以下标题进行修改: “Carvedilol produces dose-related improvements in LV function and dose-related reductions in mortality and hospitalization rate in subjects with chronic heart failure from systolic dysfunction” 以下是网友“Qikaka”的修改建议: “Dose-related effect of carvedilol in improvements in left ventricular function and survival in subjects with chronic heart failure” 改后的标题大大缩短:少了6个单词,合计61个字符。 First impressions: the importance of writing a good title The title of your paper is a “hook” that should be used to attract readers—it is your opportunity to “sell” your paper to readers browsing a table of contents or search results. A poor title will cause potentially interested researchers to overlook your work and may attract the wrong audience. By contrast, a good title will attract the relevant researchers and increase the number of citations you receive. Journal editors like this because number of citations relates to the impact factor a journal gets. Therefore, it is important to get it right. A good title should be as brief as possible while still communicating the main finding(s) of the paper. Avoid excessive detail and unnecessary use of field-specific jargon and abbreviations. Your title must be understandable by a broad scientific audience, some of whom may not have a detailed knowledge of your particular field. How broad depends on the particular target journal—consider the readership of your target journal, which is usually explained on the journal’s website, and write a title that can be easily understood by all, not only those in your immediate field. The target journal’s instructions for authors should also be consulted to ensure that character limits are complied with and to identify whether a running (short) title is also required. Example of a poor title: “Degeneration of neurons in the CA3 and DG following OA administration: involvement of a MAPK-dependent pathway in regional-specific neuronal degeneration” This title is too long, contains non-standard abbreviations and a redundancy, and is too specific in parts. A better alternative would be: “Region-specific neuronal degeneration after okadaic acid administration”. “MAP kinase-dependent neuronal degeneration after okadaic acid administration” would probably also be acceptable, depending on the target journal, because the abbreviation MAP is widely used and understood. Exercise: Scientists visiting an online life sciences network were asked to suggest a good alternative title for the following: “Carvedilol produces dose-related improvements in LV function and dose-related reductions in mortality and hospitalization rate in subjects with chronic heart failure from systolic dysfunction” Among the responses was the following suggestion: “Dose-related effect of carvedilol in improvements in left ventricular function and survival in subjects with chronic heart failure” This title is six words and 61 characters shorter, which represents a significant reduction. The word “survival” is used to combine the two aspects of the improvement (mortality and hospitalization) and the repetition of “dose-related” has been removed. Finally, the abbreviation LV has been defined in the new title. Other researchers posted the titles and abstracts for their own papers, asking whether the titles were suitable. There were many excellent titles, some of which needed more changes than others. The following title, from Yelry, is well written and clearly defines the area of research: “Ascending venography in the diagnosis and management of nonthrombotic iliac vein compression” Although this is very clear, the author Yelry doesn’t convey the main findings of the paper, which were actually quite significant: the method was shown to be valuable for diagnosis and possibly able to separate two groups of patients. Because this significance is not conveyed in the title, Yelry could potentially lose some of the target audience. Character limits for titles dictate how much information can be included; however, the simple addition of “is valuable” after “ascending venography” says much more about the paper than the original title does. In this way, the key finding can be communicated.

学术界为他专门开了一个纪念会,斯里兰卡网站上登了一篇文章说:“The country lost one of its greatest sons。”
她拦住:“I don't need your money. I only wanna give you a lesson to respect our jobs.” Bye Bye!”
会议地址: 尼斯: poster: poster: gala dinner: art work:
The Chinese is very aggressive 。” 他说:“ I have a Chinese man to help me take care of my new house. He is a nice man 。” 他说:“ Sorry, I don’t know these two people 。” 他说:“ Sorry, I don’t know too much about China and Chinese people. I only know Bruce Lee. He was a very good fighter 。” 助手 A 。 当我问我的一位墨西哥助手对中国有什么印象时, 他想了一想, 然后嬉皮笑脸地跟我说:“ Sorry, I don’t want to tell you my own feeling about China because you are my boss. But I can tell you a humor about Chinese. Once upon a time, there were 5 people taking on a boat. When the boat entered a storm region, everyone must throw something out of the boat in order to avoid the sink of the boat. The American from Idaho threw all of the potatoes he carried with him into the water. The Japanese from Tokyo threw the TV sets he had into water immediately, too. The Chinese from Beijing had two heavy suit cases and two servants with him. He decided to threw the two servants into the water 。” 我问起另一个助手对中国人的印象, 她不假思索地说:“ Chinese people are excellent in table tennis and diving 。 In other areas. I don’t know too much.” 这位助手是一个中年男人,他笑笑地对我说:“ Chinese men are very interested in women. Once a Chinese man asked me to find Mexico ladies for him in the evening when I was in Mexico 。”
含四个session: Session 1: Targeted therapy in the clinic Session 2: Patient tumour individuality Session 3: Detecting disease monitoring treatment Session 4: Tumour interactions with their hosts 有人说,听完讲座后过段时间一般发言者所讲内容一般都忘了,留下印象的就是人的音容,外貌。 真听到有人非常优雅的英文发言(英语为母语的人又再比较),清晰,不急不缓,极富说服力,尤其A/Prof Cris Print 的 ‘Molecular signatures in cancers and how to use them’发言。 McCrystal The challenge of introducing a new targeted drug into melanoma care发言也很好。 A/Prof ‘Thomas Deisboeck Multiscale cancer modeling: applications for drug target discovery’期望值很大。
今天Maurice Wilkins Centre有个Open Science Day活动。 1. Finish what you start; 2. Be your own most difficult referee; 3. You can be based in xxx and still be the best in the world. 尤其第一点,extremely well said. Alexei Drummond .
(Halibut Capital of the World) 的美名。 1 1 以上由 鲁珀特王子城市政及区域档案馆 提供 http://www.princerupert.ca/chs.html#9 ************** Prince Rupert, British Columbia From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ****************** Jump to: navigation , search For other uses, see Prince Rupert (disambiguation) . Heritage Award plaque for the Capitol Theatre Prince Rupert, named after Prince Rupert of the Rhine , was founded by Charles Melville Hays , the general manager of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway (GTP) and was incorporated on March 10, 1910. Prior to the opening of the GTP, the business centre on the North Coast was Port Essington on the Skeena River . After the founding of Prince Rupert at the western terminus for the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway , Port Essington returned to being a fishing community and is now a ghost town. Charles Hays had many grand ideas for Prince Rupert including berthing facilities for large passenger ships and the development of a major tourism industry. These plans fell through when Charles Hays perished April 15, 1912 on the RMS Titanic . Mount Hays , the larger of two mountains on Kaien Island, is named in his honour, as is a local high school, Charles Hays Secondary School . Local politicians used the promise of a highway connected to the mainland as an incentive and the city grew over the next several decades. American troops finally completed the 100 mile stretch of road between Prince Rupert and Terrace during World War II to facilitate the movement of thousands of allied troops to the Aleutian Islands and the Pacific. Following World War II, the fishing industry, particularly salmon and halibut , and forestry became the city's major industries. Prince Rupert was the Halibut Capital of the World until the early 1980s. A long-standing dispute over fishing rights in the Dixon Entrance to the Hecate Straight (pronounced as "hekk-et") between American and Canadian fisherman lead to the formation of the 54-40 or Fight Society. The United States Coast Guard maintains a military base in nearby Ketchikan, Alaska . Over the years, hundreds of students were said to have largely paid their way through school by working in the then lucrative fishing industry. Construction of a pulp mill began in 1947 and was operating by 1951. The construction of coal and grain shipping terminals followed. The 1960s, 1970s and 1980s saw the construction of many amenities including a civic centre , swimming pool , public library , golf course and performing arts centre (recently renamed "The Lester Centre of the Arts"). Prince Rupert had much to offer as it transitioned from a fishing and mill town to a small city. In the 1990s, both the fishing and forest industries experienced a significant downturn in economic activity. In July, 1997, Canadian fishermen blockaded the Alaska Marine Highway ferry M/V Malaspina , keeping it in the port as a protest in the salmon fishing rights dispute between Alaska and British Columbia. The forest industry died when the soft wood lumber dispute arose between Canada and the U.S. After the pulp mill closed down, many people were out of a job, and a significant amount of top of the line machinery was left dormant. After reaching a peak of about 18,000 in the early 1990s, Prince Rupert's population began to decline as people left in search of work. The period from 1996 to 2004 saw difficult times for Prince Rupert, including closure of the pulp mill , the burning down of a fish plant and a significant population decline. 2005 may be viewed as a critical turning point though. The announcement of the construction of a container port in April 2005, combined with new ownership of the pulp mill , the 2004 opening of a new cruise ship dock , the resurgence of coal and grain shipping , and the prospects of increased heavy industry and tourism foretell a bright future for the area. On August 22, 1949, a magnitude 8.1 earthquake destroyed windows and buildings swung. See 1949 Queen Charlotte earthquake . Geography Orthographic projection centred over Prince Rupert BC Coast, showing Prince Rupert and Vancouver Prince Rupert is situated on Kaien Island (approximately 770 km (480 mi) north of Vancouver ), just north of the mouth of Skeena River , and linked by a short bridge to the mainland. The city is located along the island's northwestern shore, fronting on Prince Rupert Harbour . At the western terminus of Trans-Canada Highway 16 (the Yellowhead Highway ), Prince Rupert is approximately 12 km west of Port Edward , 144 km west of Terrace , and 717 km west of Prince George . Climate Prince Rupert has an oceanic climate ( Kppen Cfb ) and is also located in a temperate rainforest . Prince Rupert is known as "The City of Rainbows" , as it is Canada's wettest city, with 2,590 millimetres (102 in) of annual precipitation on average, 2,470 millimetres (97.2 in) of that total being rain; in addition, 240 days per year have at least some precipitation, and there are only 1230 hours of sunshine per year - It is regarded as the municipality in Canada which receives the least amount of sunshine annually. Tourist brochures boast about Prince Rupert's "100 days of sunshine" . Summers are mild and comparatively drier, with an August daily mean of 13.5 °C (56.3 °F). Spring and autumn are not particularly well-defined; rainfall nevertheless peaks in the autumn months. Winters are chilly and damp, but warmer than most locations at a similar latitude, due to Pacific moderation: the January daily mean is 1.3 °C (34.3 °F), although frosts and blasts of cold Arctic air from the northeast are not uncommon . Snow amounts are moderate for Canadian standards, averaging 126 centimetres (50 in) and occurring mostly from December to March. Snowfall in Prince Rupert is rare and normally melts within a few days, although individual snowstorms may bring copious amounts of snow. Wind speeds are relatively strong, with prevailing winds blowing from the southeast . Extremes in temperature range from less than −24.4 °C (−12 °F) in January 1965 to greater than 28.7 °C (84 °F) in August 1977. Transport Seaport Prince Rupert Harbour Prince Rupert's sheltered harbour is the deepest ice -free natural harbour in North America, and the 3rd deepest natural harbour in the world. Situated at 54° North, the harbour is the northwestern most port in North America linked to the continent's railway network. Located on the Great Circle Route between eastern Asia and western North America, the port is the first inbound and last outbound port of call for cargo ships . Passenger ferries operating from Prince Rupert include BC Ferries ' service to the Queen Charlotte Islands and to Port Hardy on Vancouver Island , and Alaska Marine Highway ferries to Ketchikan , Juneau and Sitka and many other ports along Alaska's Inside Passage . The Prince Rupert Ferry Terminal is co-located with the Prince Rupert railway station , from which Via Rail offers a thrice-weekly Jasper – Prince Rupert train , connecting to Prince George and Jasper , and through a connection with The Canadian , to the rest of the continental passenger rail network. The Prince Rupert Port Authority is responsible for the port's operation. Much of the harbour is formed by the shelter provided by Digby Island, which lies windward of the city and contains the Prince Rupert Airport . The city is located on Kaien Island and the harbour also includes Tuck Inlet, Morse Basin, Wainwright Basin, and Porpoise Harbour, as well as part of the waters of Chatham Sound which takes in Ridley Island. Port facilities Main article: Prince Rupert Port Authority The Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) is a federally appointed agency which administers and operates various port properties on the harbour. Previously run by the National Harbours Board and subsequently the Prince Rupert Port Corporation, the PRPA is now a locally run organization. PRPA port facilities include: · Atlin Terminal · Northlands Terminal · Lightening Dock · Ocean Dock · Westview Dock · Fairview Terminal · Prince Rupert Grain · Ridley Terminals · Sulphur Corporation All PRPA facilities are serviced by CN Rail . The Canadian Coast Guard maintains CCG Base Seal Cove on Prince Rupert Harbour where vessels are homeported for search and rescue and maintenance of aids to navigation throughout the north coast. CCG also bases helicopters at Prince Rupert for servicing remote locations with aids to navigation, as well as operating a Marine Communications Centre, covering a large Vessel Traffic Services zone from Port Hardy at the northern tip of Vancouver Island to the International Boundary north of Prince Rupert. Both BC Ferries and the Alaska Marine Highway operate ferries which call at Prince Rupert, with destinations in the Alaska Panhandle , the Queen Charlotte Islands , and isolated communities along the central coast to the south. Ra McGuire of the band Trooper wrote the hit song "Santa Maria" on a boat in Prince Rupert's Harbour. Says McGuire, "The boat was called The Lucky Lady. We sailed from Prince Rupert onto an island off the coast with an awful lot of alcohol and some salmon to barbecue. Many of the lines in the song are direct quotes from the skipper. He actually said 'Okay, there's only fear and good judgment holding us back.' On the way back he said 'Does somebody know how to drive this thing?' I actually wrote these down in a little notepad as we went." Amuro Ray , the protagonist of the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam , was born and raised in Prince Rupert. p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; } 我在一位美国同事心中的印象 蒋继平 2011 年 5 月 19 日 上个星期五,是我的一位美国同事在公司上班的最后一天。 Also, most importantly, you are a great American. More of us should be like you. You need to stay here on earth as long as you can and influence as many young people you can to make the world a better place.
