风中之烛 - 风之悲歌　

小儿子学读诗，老师很用心，经常选歌词，先学唱，再解释意思。近段时间，孩子学著名的歌曲（词）：《Candle in the Wind》（风中之烛）。他听Elton John在1997年戴安娜王妃纪念会上演唱的这首歌。我们也跟着听。

这首歌曲，Elton John写得用心，唱得也用心。John 饱含感情的歌声响起，令人悲伤。  

儿子问: Mom, why did John name Princess Diana as 'our nation's  golden child'?

我回答(中文)：那是因为，英国民众非常喜欢戴安娜王妃，把她当成国家的＇宝贝＇。

儿子又问（中英文）：“那美国有 nation's golden child 吗？”　

我说：有的，美国人　…，Shirley Temple（秀兰－邓波儿）还有，Bill Gates（比尔－盖茨），嗯，他年轻的时候。表现出色的孩子、young ladies and gentlemen（年青人）, 都可以是。孩子们都有可能成为 nation's golden child。

孩子的眼睛里闪着光芒。他停了一下，又问：“那中国有吗？”

我愣住了。

突然，一抹久远的记忆闪过了我的脑海，我的鼻子一酸，眼泪止不住滚了下来。

书房里静静的，只有Elton John的歌声：“Loveliness we've lost / These empty days without your smile / This torch we'll always carry. / For our nation's golden child / And even though we try / The truth brings us to tears.”(我们已经失去了挚爱的人／在没有你笑容的空虚日子里／我们将永远伴随这火烛／来纪念我们国家的金童玉女／即使我们强忍悲痛／这样依然让我们泪水涟涟。)
