Energy Light the Earth: From the first-time mankind drilled wood for fire to the use of fossil energy, it was the continuous progress and innovation of energy that propelled human society to leapfrog from the age of fuelwood to the age of electricity. Nowadays, the humankind's demand for building a green, low-carbon and sustainable society is growing day by day. This has in turn led to a huge change in the structure of energy, from fossil energy to the promotion and popularization of renewable energy sources, such as wind and nuclear energy. The continuous development of green, low-carbon, clean and sustainable energy will surely illuminate the direction of human society and push the train of the times to set sail again.

The Innovation Energy(ISSN 3006-418X)是The Innovation的能源科学姊妹刊,通过开放获取(Open Access)的方式面向全球发表创新、严谨和前沿的重要能源科学与工程研究进展。The Innovation Energy由清华大学姜培学教授(中国科学院院士)担任主编。

Inauguration | 创刊词

人类社会的进步离不开能源这台引擎的驱动,它在维持现代人类文明中扮演着不可或缺的关键角色。纵观历史长河,能源始终是人类活动中不可分割且不可替代的重要部分。每一次能源领域的创新都标志着文明的巨大飞跃,最终带动生产力的解放。探索和利用能源的脚步从未停歇。早在8万年前,智人就学会了“钻木取火”,开启了人类最早的能源利用时代。此后,能源发展的步伐从未停滞。从最初利用树枝杂草作为燃料,到水力风力机械的出现,直至煤炭驱动蒸汽机的发明,彻底拉开了工业革命的序幕,掀开了能源利用的全新篇章。随后几十年间,煤炭、石油、天然气等化石燃料在能源系统中发挥重要作用,促成了各种交通运输方式和现代工业的蓬勃发展。

然而,由能源主导的全球经济虽然经历了快速且持续的增长,但也带来了严峻的社会挑战:气候变化、环境污染和生态恶化。这些问题与可持续发展的目标背道而驰。将现今的能源系统转型为清洁、低碳、高效、韧性和协作的模式,对于满足减排需求和实现长期可持续发展至关重要。这也是减缓气候变化最为有效的解决方案之一。近年来,太阳能、风能、氢能和生物质能等可再生能源在全球范围内得到积极发展,为建设可持续化地球提供了多元化的解决方案。全球能源发展最新趋势进一步强化了能源消费从单一化石能源向化石能源与可再生能源结合的加速转变。

如今,能源需求依旧保持着快速增长的势头,持续推动着科技进步。能源作为一个永恒的议题,值得我们不断探索,以解决能源需求和生态环境等方面的问题。鉴于此,建立一个能够展示能源系统科学研究进展的平台变得愈发重要。为了更好地促进能源科学发展,The Innovation Energy应运而生;旨在为全球能源研究人员提供一个国际化交流平台。该刊致力于加速传播更具创新性的科学发现以及跨所有能源相关学科的创造性技术应用。它欢迎世界一流的原创研究和综述文章,提供所有相关领域的创新和基础性见解。

Energy is the engine that drives the progress of human society and economy, playing a crucial role in sustaining modern human civilization.

Energy has been an integral and irreplaceable part of human activities throughout human history. Every innovation of energy signifies the tremendous progress of civilization, which eventually results in the liberation of productivity. The pace of pursuing and utilizing energy is consistently on the march. As early as 80,000 years ago, Homo sapiens learned to "drill wood for fire", marking the initial energy use. Over the span of this period, the pace of energy never holds back, progressing from use of branches and weeds as fuel to the development of hydraulic and wind machinery. The invention of the steam engine powered by coal trigged the Industrial Revolution, opening a new chapter of energy utilization. Subsequently, fossil fuel, including coal, oil and natural gas, played a significant role in the energy system with next few decades, promoting the development of various modes of transport and modern industrialization.

While the global economy driven by the energy regulation has experienced a rapid and sustained growth, it has also brought about serious social challenges, such as climate change, pollution and ecological deterioration, conflicting with the goal of sustainable development. The transition of our energy system towards a clean, low-carbon, efficient, resilient, and collaborative model is critical to meet the requirement of emission reduction and achieve long-term sustainability, which is also considered as one of most efficient solutions to mitigate climate change. Renewable energy like solar, wind, hydrogen, and biomass have been energetically developed over the world in recent decades, offering diverse solutions for a sustainable planet. However, the latest trends in global energy development reinforce the accelerated shift of energy consumption from fossil energy to a combination of fossil and renewable energies.

Today, energy demand continues to increase rapidly, driving technological advancements. Energy is still an everlasting topic, which is worthy to be explored to address the issues of energy demand and ecological environment. Given that, it is more important than ever to set up a platform that could display the scientific research progress on energy systems. To fill this gap, a new journal named as The Innovation Energy, which provides an advanced and international platform for worldwide energy researchers, is marked on the agenda. The journal aims to accelerate and disseminate more innovative scientific discoveries as well as creative technological applications across all energy-related disciplines. It welcomes world-class cutting-edge original research and review articles that deliver innovative and fundamental insights in all related fields.

The scope of this journal is broad, covering all aspects of energy-related topics, including energy generation, storage, distribution, management, use, and policy, as well as their impacts on society. The journal will bridge the gap between scientific discoveries, technological advancements, and real-world applications in the field of energy. Furthermore, our editorial team is committed to providing a fair and rigorous peer-review process that upholds the highest standards of scientific integrity to welcome contributions from researchers worldwide.

Let us see the unseen and change the unchanged with an energetic energy progress.
