Too bcc, or not to bcc, that is the question!

Everyone of us at the SciNet does emailing, daily. This morning, I received an email from a colleague (in the US) to many of his Indian colleagues, about (English) writing; so, I hit "reply to all" without realizing that what I got was a bcc (blind carbon copy). Simply, I was NOT supposed to be "seen," less to join in!

In this case, no big deal, because we are colleagues (in a small field). However, this incident reminded me of the danger of using bcc.

I used to like bcc, but several incidents later, I saw the danger and confusion of those who received the bcc. So, I stopped that pracitce.

This is what I do when I want to bcc a bunch of friends a link (about an event): I email myself the link, and bcc to whoever I want to see the link. This is SAFE, and proper (because the list includes people who may not know each other and should not have their email addresses given away).

Happy emailing!
